If you cannot find it online you can pay a $15 two day membership to TIS Toyota Technical Information System. I am sure you can find it there.

Thanks guys. I have been through those threads and found the TSB on flashing the ECU, but not the full one on replacing the entire transmission (TSB 0089-12)

Dude its $15 get it from TIS (and grab what ever else you might need while your there), that is like one days worth of gas for most 4runners.

If you find the TSB, you might be able to google for the NHTSA ref # and find what you are looking for there.

Here is the TSB but there appears to be some other bulletins with the transmission. 4WD propellar shaft driveshaft clunk/thunk noise T-SB-0040-12 Rev1 and T-SB-0040-12.

Are these free for all vehicles within the 5 year or 8 year timeframe? Since these arent recalls, some owners may not have taken it in to get addressed, right? I am looking at a 5th gen but afraid to touch 2010-12 MYs because of this.

I suggest a search on this site, where you'll find more info specifically about these TSB's. I think you'll find the service procedures outlined took care of the issue's almost all the time. If you're purchasing a used 2010-2012 5th gen from a Toyota dealer, they may even be able to go back and review the service history to see if the vehicle received the prescribed services from the bulletins. In any event, and in my opinion, I would not let these two relatively minor issues sway you from purchasing an otherwise clean and well maintained T4R from those model years.

That was an old thread bump...

The TSBs cover a potential issue that only crops up occasionally from my experience (my uncle's '11 seems to have it.) But it's not very common.
