TSB's covered under extended warranty?

Just curious if anyone knows if the TSB's repairs will still be 'free' under the extended warranty? My 3 years are up at the end of November (22k now), and I have the hazed headlights. I hate the idea of my dealer taking the front end apart for this when it really does not affect the functionality of anything, plus if it really bothers me I can also just wax it and it will be good (for a couple weeks). I DO want the new lights eventually because I'm sure the problem will only get worse and if I ever do want to sell it I want it looking good. I would rather wait closer to the end of my extended warranty to have the work done, if possible. Anyone have any experience with this? I don't really want to call the dealer because they will tell me to take it in now.

There is no doubt I am simple, but I think your issues are well, a bit unfounded.

You do not want to pay for a repair. Great, it is covered under warranty right now. But you do not want to fix it now for fear the dealer will screw up the repairs? Seriously? No doubt that might happen, but it might happen at any time. What happens if the dealer screws up the repairs later? What happens if they tell you yes, it is covered under your extended warranty and then 2 years later, a different interpretation comes to light? Now your screwed. At least now you KNOW it is covered and free.

You are asking if your extended warranty will cover this. How do we know? Which warranty do you have and have you read the contract? Is there a deductible on your extended warranty? Honestly, I think you should get it done now, while it is for sure covered and free. IF the dealer screws up something during the repair, it will get handled now, not while you are under some pressure later trying to sell your vehicle........

Or, read your contract, whomever it may be from or call the warranty company directly and ask them and take your chances they will be true to their word later......be safe.

Personally, I'm confused as to why you even ponder such a thing. You're concerned the dealer may screw it up now? .... but somehow he won't screw it up later? Surely you understand that's not at all logical?

Seriously, it is a simple basic question. For sh!ts and giggles, say my 4R is out of warranty and I want this service done NOW under a TSB, just curious if anyone has run into that situation.

Valid question about the warranty though, it is the full Toyota extended warranty (the one that I think everyone has here that has one).

A decent amount of people have the extends here, and I'm sure more TSB's will be on the way, just a matter or time before someone runs into this, just wondered if someone already had.

If the repair was simple or bothered me, like the seat back popping and the tranny lag, BOTH of which I had fixed as soon as they were issued I would have it done. Just don't like the thought of someone pulling apart the front end at this point for this repair. Personally I think it is a stupid design for how much you have to remove just to access the headlights. Things are never the same when you remove/replace them. Would rather wait until later in the vehicles life for that. Not sure why you have a 'bone to pick' with me though on this one.

I will make a call tomorrow and post what I find out, as most people have the same warranty (just different lengths - get your minds out of the gutter) it should apply to everyone.

Keep in mind many Extended Warranties require you to cover a deductible. (Unless you got a desperate salesmen like me who sold you one at a reduced price without a deductible. LOL)

Extended warranty (particularly those done through Toyota) will cover most TSB's as long as the TSB does actually apply and the component being warrantied is covered under the warranty. They may also require an adjuster come out and look at the claim depending on the part/company, where as usually the factory will just warranty it and bill the dealership later if they find they screwed up.

I work on our used cars at the dealership and do a lot of extended warranty work not just for Toyotas and can tell you, even for TSB's, customers are often paying deductibles.

Another thing is that many extended warranties will find a LOT of excuses to deny the claim, for example a customer had a used '07 300C (Why they bought a Chrysler and expected it to NOT fall apart baffles me...) that had transmission problems. Turns out the transmission in that unit is prone to valve body failures, I was authorized to tear down and determine what needed replacing. As part of the process an adjuster was sent over who saw rust on the shaft of the selector rod, I later found out from other mechanics who have experience with that transmission it is rather common for rust to form on that rod. But the warranty company denied the woman's claim who had no money to repair the trans and so the car sat for a few months after the warranty company had me put the trans back together again WITHOUT replacing seals and such, which caused the trans to now leak after it was re installed. The car was eventually towed away at the owner's expense.

Moral of the story is, if it is covered under factory warranty, get it done! Extended warranties become far more complicated and often more of a fight to get things dealt with later down the road.

The headlight TSB is NOT covered under extended warranty, just the first 36k. A TSB only outlines a "plan of action" not any agreement or mandate to do the repairs. And, each TSB should come with a statement of where it falls as far as warranty is concerned.
Headlights - 36k (headlamps excluded in Toy Plat Ext Warranty)
Driveshaft - 60k drivetrain
Seat back crunch - 36k (seat cover is not covered under ext warranty but seat mechanicals are, so it should be covered)
