I wanted to update everyone, as I sent out messages to everybody to get an status update of where they stood with the group buy. Some of feedback I got made me think there is some misconceptions of how things are going to be. First the letters WILL HAPPEN. There has been a lot of time and money put into this on my end, and I will not spend more time or money until there are more committed buyers. Second the mold for the cover piece is going to be based off of the factory grill cover. So, it will be almost the exact dimensions as the factory piece. Will there be differences? Yes, but they will be so slight most will not even be able to see a difference. If there are anymore questions or concerns place feel free to PM me I usally pretty fast at responding.

I’m sure this product will be good once it’s done. It’s quite an investment for a mold and everyone prepaying will help.
The oem trim I believe was a tad short and exposed some color on each side. Not sure if you want to improve over this or just leave it

It will be left the same. I agree that there is a slight gap, but there is more at play then you think in those corners. There is a lot of compound curves/angles. And I am sure that is why toyota designed their's the way they did. And is also why the final version will follow the same lines.
I have personally spent at least 100 hours getting to the point of being able to make my prototypes. And that is not including the research I have done. And the gap was one of the things I tried to address. I ended up having to trim it back that far to get the piece to fit properly.

Do we have a timeline when the mold will be cast and production will begin?

Just had a long meeting with the company that is forming the pieces. Wrote a check to get things moving. He told me they hope to get to work on building the molds at the end of this week at the earliest. But most likely early next week. They had a flu bug in the office and he had a couple guys out this week.
After they start it will take a few weeks the get everything built and fine tuned. He walked me through the whole process. They were actually doing the first tune runs on a new mold tool they just made. He showed me all the necessary steps. They burn through 5-10 sheets of plastic just to get all the settings right. Definitely the right place to have this made.
Thank you all that have made this happen. I would not be happening without you first 50! I will update production news as I get it.

Are there any plans to make a run of black covers that would work with the stock SR5 grille? It would be cool to just have a black cover with the semi-circle molded into it, that way we could just slap it on the center portion of the grill and keep our stock upper piece. It would also retain the Toyota emblem, and people would not have to worry about the Toyota letters.

No. Demand for that seems like it would be pretty low. If I am visioning what you are saying correctly. A lot of people have done similar things like that with plastidip/vinyl.

Yes, unless you put something else in that area like a light bar.
