Headed to tucson in june and wouldnt mind going out somewhere while there if anyone is up for it. Hopefully i will have my concealed carry by then.

There are a few different options for wheeling out here within a short drive of Tucson. Most of what you will find is dirt, sand, and rocks. Occasionally you will find water crossings or mud. You are already lifted and will have armor and lights so you will be set there. Really the only other thing I can think of is don't go out alone, or have a winch and some recovery gear ready. Be prepared to have things puncture your tires besides just rocks and roots. We have some neat cactus here that can end your day as well if you don't have anything to repair a tire.
Here is a list of things around the state. A lot of the trail heads are within 2 or less hours of the city. Some of them have nice camping opportunities. Few have nice fishing, but most of the lakes or rivers have trails in the area you can explore.

One thing to keep in mind is state trust land and other restrictions. Some of these areas require a permit.
Experience AZ Permit and Pass Information
Emissions is pretty simple. As long as you don't have a check engine light on you should pass. They just hook it up to the computer and as along as all systems show ready and ok you are fine. You may need to get your vehicle inspected since it is coming in from out of state though.

We also have designated areas for illegal activity. Not for you though. While in this article the author says they have not encountered illegal emigrants or illegal activity, I personally have and on multiple occasion. I have seen persons carrying suspicious large square bails (the contents of such bails were unknown to me, but I think we all know what it was lol), have been offered thousands of dollars to give someone a ride to Phoenix and seen plenty more. For your own safety and to preserve your own freedom, do not go out to these areas alone, bring a fire arm if you have one (take that as a personal suggestion if you want), do not interact with these people period. If you run across someone dying of thirst, use your own judgement on what a sensible human being would do and call the proper authorities. Something as simple as giving someone a ride down the road can land you a very long prison sentence, and you can not drive your 4runner in prison.

We have a product available anywhere around here called Slime. It's probably available nationwide, but I didn't see it until I moved here from PA a decade ago. Anyways, it's a great go to for cactus repair, or put it in your tires in advance and drive right over the poor prickly things.
I hope you like mountains more than you like rivers if you're moving here from OH

If you do use that, or something similar like fix a flat make sure you notify and apologize to the next person that balances your wheels or replaces your tires. That stuff is a pain in the butt to clean out and needs to come out to properly balance your wheels. I only use it in a pinch if I can't use a patch or plug or time is short.
I find it handy if there are suddenly 47 holes to patch...
but yes, it can be messy. Has always worked great on bikes and quads, too, and much better than fixaflat.
I can not use slime, My wheels are ballanced with beads. since its a super heavy wheel tire combo. i used to live out west, PHX but when i did i had my sti.. so its a bit diffrent.We have a product available anywhere around here called Slime. I do love mountains, we do have alot of creeks, I do have a feeling the wheeling is going to be a bit diffrent than super tight trials barly wide enought for jeeps lol. were i wheel is super dense woods so the creek bed is the wideist line.

I saw it after hours at a car vacuum place around 22nd/Kolb area too. Lots of work done on it. Maybe he thinks we can't see it.

Admittedly, I've never used it in a car. I carry it just in case, but haven't run over any cactus that was up to the task.
In other news, if you are caught driving in a wash that's in city limits, they will fine you. Oh, and wet sand is very soft.

I found that out in high school. Got a ticket for curfew too at the time. They said they thought we were driving stolen vehicles or smuggling drugs...Just wanted to drive in some of the only water in town!

hey guys fairly new to tucson and really new to 4 wheeln but heres mine its a 92 v6 5speed, all stock except for 31x10.5r15 tires and plastidip bumpers.
also dont really know anyone else who has a 4x4 so would like to hear of anyone planning any trips or meets cause i really dont like going out alone lol
