So there has been LATELY a lot of discussion about tundra 5100 with toytec eibachs. The discussion that pops a lot is what perch to run the tundra 5100 with eibachs to be at 3" of lift.

Some say very bottom perch because you might blow the shocks up. Some say 2nd perch as this is the same as the very bottom perch on Tacoma 5100.

So far I heard one incident on someone blowing the tundra 5100 because of 2nd perch.

Please if you are running this set up. Let us know what perch and how it rides and how it sits.

I just went thru this myself .the bottom clip of the tundra 5100's will not give you 3" of lift .perch #2 will give you three inches with the toytec springs .on the bilstein especially designed for a tacoma you want to stay on the bottom clip and you will get the three inches of lift .as far as rides go its a good ride with the tundra 5100/toytec set up on the second .

I got 3" out of bottom perch (Tundras) and that's with a (not heavy ass) bumper and winch and hilift.

And to add more random statistics my tundras blew themselves up running on the lowest perch. Take everything you read with a grain of salt.

Snivilous ,I followed what happened to you . it's totally unfortunate and sucks .but in following ,i also see that you do a fair amount of off road stuff with your set up ,and quite frankly the bilstein shock is a lighter weight shock for off road .so it doesn't surprise me all that much that one would fail .i mean its roughly a one hundred dollar shock, good bang for the buck i might add,but blow a couple and you could have been into a better shock .if you want good trail performance look into a stronger shock with say a 2.5 body and a larger shaft with stiffer valving problem solved.as far as lift height i just got done doing mine which i had to do twice because at the bottom perch i was at 2.5 barely and that is unsettled height measurement which im sure would drop as things settle.also i personally didn't like the rake it left me with from front to back .I am no suspension expert and won't claim to be ,but i have spent a fair amount of years riding mx and driving various vehicles in our local deserts ,so i'd like to think am not misleading when i do bother to post info. i pay attention ,like i see that you are a fellow member on the x .and i seen your ski's on here and noticed your post on the x about your about 44mm carb jetting (i ride ski's too) read your piston wash and plugs will be the best way to determine how you are running .not trying to be up in your mug with my info ,but you seem irritated with my post .maybe its because bilstein blew you off about your issue, which is a bummer . best way to combat that situation is to become someone else's customer, and pump their products .Imo

Snivilous , i might add on a friendly note ,i was stoked to see fellow 4runner stand -up jet ski riders here on the forum .so im not trying to discredit your info .but it is true what you noted about grains of salt .the way i see things is, one persons idea of whats good might not be my idea of whats good.and so on .

Have not gotten 3" of lift out of my Tundra/Eibach combo on the first perch. Too lazy to get under there and change them again at this point.

I just installed Tundra 5100 and Eibachs a couple weeks ago. I am running on the bottom perch, and I gained a full 3", but that was coming off original shocks and springs that were pretty sacked out, so I guess that's a grain of salt for you.
But I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger on this lift and everything I found said that any perch other than the bottom on the Tundra 5100 would result in damage to the shock. And after installing them myself I would agree with that assessment, the Eibach is a heavy spring and preloading it that far would put a lot of strain on the shock.

Tundra 5100s with Eibachs. Second perch. 1/4 top plate spacer on the drivers side. Sitting at a hair over 3" of lift with full skids, sliders, bumper, blah blah. Been running it this way for almost a year no issues. Rides like a dream. Been all over colorado and Moab with them like this too.

No worries man! And I completely agree, I needed/need a heavier duty shock for what I usually do which hopefully will come next paycheck :D And that's awesome that you ride stand ups!! Are you on x-h2o? (not to derail too much)

Do u wheel hard ? How's the flex in the front ?

Snivilous , yea man I'm on the x ,same user name . Best feature of my 4runner is my freestyle ski fits inside .i understand your frustration with bilstein as they are a great value as long as they aren't coming apart . For the price point very capable . But I have a set of 2.5 fox on my tundra and it's a slightly beefier set up ,but the street ride suffers a bit , and the price isn't cheap .

probably the best three showing front flex. While I was in Moab my tire flexed enough to smash into the top of my fenders multiple times. The fender bolts were loose by the end of it. I'm taking an inch off my fenders so that'll no longer happen haha.

I have a hard time believing people who set tundra 5100 on bottom perch get 3" with eibachs. Because like people said and seen on a photo , which I can't find, that the 2nd perch on tundra equals to bottom perch of Tacoma. So there for setting it on second perch should equal 3" and not on bottom perch ?!....

Ok, with regard to the bilstiens blowing out, what's the cause of that? Are they cheaper than I've been lead to believe or is it a mismatch in setup vs type of off-road? Are people blowing these out on fast trails or rock climbing?

I ask because my current plan is the popular tundra front coils ome 906 rears with 5100s all around. I'd like to know if i need to modify my plan some.

For reference my build is for 5/10 difficulty rock crawling kind of wheeling, with DD and road trip duties as well.

Mud and water crossings will be only incidental.

Yea that one, notice how much bigger the eye of the tundra is. But the correct me if I'm wrong, front tundra 5100 bolt right in ??

I think running them on 2nd perch is safe. The amount of people on 2nd perch outways how many have blow. Them. Could have been a defect in shock or just to hard core on wheeling. Even best shocks blow out.

And in this picture above it clearly shows taco 5100 bottom equal to tundra 2nd.

I've heard a lot of people running them on the 2nd perch with no issues, but I think it all depends on the abuse they take. I've blown two Tundra 5100s now. The first was with Tundra springs on the 3rd perch and I just blew one this weekend with the Eibachs on the 2nd perch. I'm getting frustrated so I'm either going to go down to the 1st perch or buy coilovers.

Do you think it's to much rake if you set tundra 5100 on 1st perch and have superflex in the back ? Superflex are for 3.75" of lift. How much is to much for rake ??
