Tundra Brakes input - Powerstop / Napa Eclipse / Callahan

I did 199 on mine using the best available from Advance. Had it on there for about 5-6 years. Had to replace both calipers due to a bad run from Advance but have been great since. With new shoes and drums on the back it stops on a dime in comparison to the factory setup.
 
Ended up going with PS KC2324-23 kit. Did a decent amount of research into these and they fit my bill. I don't tow and if so, once a year super short run so it's just a pad coin difference in going with 36 kit. Spoke directly to PS factory rep also about caliper quality etc. Adding Stop Tech SS brake lines as well. Not looking to set braking records here or kissing windshield on a routine red light hault.

With returning Oem cores for TBU, I just didn't want to tack on extra $$ up front in hopes XX accepts 4R's core back and me eat cost. Searched around I managed to snag a $30 Jegs promo code offered that day with usual free 2 shipping. Bicep weight lifting on these things. My brakes are close to burnt toast so bonus getting a COMPLETE kit down to grease & hardware, one box in short timing.

On they go today ...

That's the same kit I went with. After 15 months they're still going strong. Make sure to bed them properly and you'll be happy with them.

I've had zero issues with performance or fade from this kit and I do a lot of stuff that you'd expect brake fade on.

I've been looking at this kit until I saw that the bolt pattern is 100mm whereas 3rd gen 4runner bolt pattern is 139.7mm. Can anybody help?

I just checked on Rock Auto for the same kit for a 2005 Tundra and it list the same incorrect specs. It's an error on their website would be my guess but I'd call and make sure before you get sent the wrong kit.

Any of those sets have thicker rotors, which is the whole point of the upgrade.

Does anybody have any input about this basic non-slotted rotor kit at Rockauto that was listed above? These come with gray rotors and they still oem calipers rebuilt like the kit with red calipers? How much better is the slotted/drilled rotor/caliper set? Any input, I'm debating between the 2 sets. I just need something better than my stock setup that really needs to be replaced after so many years. Thanks.

If you click on the Info button next to them it'll show what parts are in the kit. The grey calipers are still the large 13WL calipers, and the rotors are the OEM-style non-slotted rotors. I have Toyota rotors but essentially they are the same thing and work great.

The only so-so part might be the brake pads, I don't know if they will squeal or not since I also have OEM pads (I'm easy on the brakes so they last a long time for me).

This is who I went with. I ordered parts for my mustang and liked the quality, shipping was fast, etc. Im going on 3 years now on the tundra brakes. One thing i DONT like is I ordered ceramic pads and theyre noisy first thing on a cold cold morning, but it stops by the time I get out of the neighborhood.
 
Best deal for that I've seen since I got my 4R. Also, no, they don't offer that kit in black. Red only for the Z23 kit. They make a much harder to find kit in black but it's got meh pads and blank rotors - and it doesn't cost much less. Not a good deal.

I got S2712 red calipers from Rock Auto for about $140 out the door after core exchange, tax and shipping, and the Z23 pads & slotted rotors for about $112 shipped from Advanced Auto Parts. Advanced has a 25% off for online orders shipping to home so the $137 kit comes out to just over $100 before tax with free shipping. All said and done it’s about $250 after core return.
 
I went with the O'reillys parts. Calipers,rotors and brake pads and have put them to use a few times on the freeway going about 70 to a stop. I didn't have the time to wait for "better" parts. I felt like I was rolling the dice going with those parts but they work fine and I'm happy with what I got and would do it again

Evan, thank you. To be clear, this is the same Power Stop Z23 kit, just in black? Looks to be. Heading-out with the family in a bit, but seems to be the same. Thanks again.

Not the same. The pads in the Callahan kit are ceramic-only, as are the meh pads that Toyota shipped with the Tundra. The Z23 kits include some rather nice carbon-ceramic pads; carbon added to the brake pad mix was responsible for the great improvement in braking performance in many marques in the late 90s to mid 2000s. This is basically their "Autospecialty" kit (including the meh pads) with the rotors from the PowerStop Z23 kits only coated black.
 
I got the S13WE Callahan kit with drilled rotors and ceramic pads. They are warped after 10k. On the other hand I have another truck with the same calipers and Brembo blanks with Axxis Semi Metallics. Aside from noise, they stop great and no warping after 20k.
 
I personally would just avoid any ceramic pad that isn’t carbon-ceramic. Ceramic pads tend to be hard on rotors and yes, are prone to causing hot spots. Carbon pads are less prone to this and are far easier on rotors. They don’t tend to last as long and they do dust more. Been playing with brake upgrades on heavier street cars and trucks for a couple decades now as well as running them on road race courses - and I wouldn’t buy the common ceramic-only pads on anything I drive unless that was the only choice.
