tundra/fj80 lift for 4runner

So I am piecing together a lift for my 99 4runner. I am going with front fj80 coils and rear shocks for the rear of my 4runner and some Tundra TRD springs with OME N91S shocks for the front. I'm hoping to have this thread be a slow progress update type of thing. Any tips, advice, comments, etc are all welcome as I am still a noob and I have alot to learn from everyone.

Does anyone know if Tacoma coilovers will work to lift the 4runner? if so what years? What are some other options for a lift for the front of the 4runner? As you already might have noticed, I'm trying to go with mostly stock OEM Toyota parts to maintain that smooth ride on the road, and good flex capability off road.

So far I was able to pick up a set of FJ80 front coils from a 1991 LC and a pair of black rear shocks off the same LC. The LC had 166,000 miles at the time when they swapped out the suspension for a lift. I'm a little afraid that these are going to be too tall and give me more lift than what I'm looking for. I will hold on to them until I can find the right coils which I think are from a 97 2WD LC. None-the-less my collection for a lift has just gotten bigger and I can't wait to get my hands on some Tundra coils and Bilstein shocks. The diff drop kit, pan hard bar, bushings etc will probably have to be ordered from toytec or SS if I can't find a good deal elsewhere.

Am I on the right track and what do you guys think I should be looking out for? I think this type of lift resembles the 1.2 system from Sonoran Steel.

how many wraps are the lc coils cuase mine off a 94 are 8 and there tall !

They're about 8 wraps from what I counted and they are TALL! I'm gonna hold on to them until I can get my hands on 7 wraps from a 97 or something. For now, I'm just collecting the parts I need to lift my runner.

So far I have been able to score TRD Tundra coils (y/y and y/b) that have the stock yellow blue bilstein shocks. I also have 2 sets of front fj80 coils. one set is a 9.25 wrap and the other is a 8 wrap. I'm still waiting on some money to order the SS diff drop and adjustable trac/pan hard bar.

My question is regarding shocks. I want to have the most comfortable ride as I can get. I know that the Bilsteins that Sonoran Steel sells is the best option and I hear that they are "custom valved". I was wondering if regular Tundra Bilstein 5100 shocks would be a good combination with the trd coil springs. Has anyone tried this? If so, how is the ride?

For the rear, I am thinking about either getting skyjacker N8055 shocks (suggested by ELTON) or some OME stuff. What OME shocks have you guys ran in the rear with FJ80 coils? and how is the ride?

I wouldnt run OME shocks with the LC coils, they are taller... the ome gets the lift not from being tall, but spring rate, so the OMEs are actually not much taller than stock and still give you lift. the shocks are therefore not that much taller than stock also.

I would run the bilstein 5125's with the LC coils, or any Longer shock thats made for a 2.5-4 inch lift

I currently have the Procomp es9000 rear shocks with 9.25 wrap Lc coils and they are ok, but you can get more flex out of the bilsteins and they are definitely higher quality.

about LC coils and lifts...

and yeah, I see that you found out, the 9.25 wraps come from the 91 LC the 7 and low 8 and 8.25 wraps come from the 93-97 LC and the 8.75 and 8.5 wrap come from the Lexus LX470's

Thanks for that info Du. I feel like there's way too many threads about lifts and such all over this forum. Good thing steeze gathered most of our info and put into that lift thread! how do the es9000 ride for ya? Are they relatively cheap? I might go with those because I'm on a tight budget. Billies will definitely be the one I want but I can't afford them as of now. I figure I can run the stock yellow/blue bilstein shocks that came with my TRD tundra coils and some cheap shocks in the rear for now. I just want to get it lifted ASAP. Been doing so much research about this because It's not a "KIT" and I'm piecing it together resembling the SS 1.2 Kit. What is the part number on the procomps? If they are cheap enough I'll try to order them up this week. I still need to get the diffdrop and trac/panhard bar from SS and I'll call it good for now. Until I can get the Bilstein shocks on 4 corners and TIRES...

But I don't know about the articulation etc on them with LC coils. SkyJackers though are a good off road shock for the price. Im about to buy some for the '99 XJ Jeep i just bought last week. Not so sure about the procomps i heaf they arent bad for the price either.

Yeah, those are probably comparable to what I have with the procomps and I bought them for 80$, As much as I hate 4wheelparts, you could prob just go in and be very specific that you want to buy some cheap shocks for a 2-3" lift and see what they sell, I unfortunately got mine from 4wheel parts before I knew any better.

thanks bulger. I will look into those shocks, and maybe talk to the guys at toytec to see if it will work with LC coils. Du, i know what you mean about the 4 wheel parts guys...I went in one day and talked to them just to see what they had since i'm only getting into the 4x4 scene now. Some of them didn't know what they were talking about and I felt like I had more knowledge about toyota's than they did and i'm a noob. And i felt like they were just trynna push parts (expensive ones) my way instead of seeing what is best for the setup I was going with. I might just go and see what they have in store just so I won't have to pay and wait for shipping...
