Tundra/LC Lift Parts Purchase

I am going to start acquiring the parts for a my lift over the next few weeks. I'm pretty sure that the Tundra/LC coils lift is what I want to do based on some revues I've read about the ride being great. To those of you that have installed this kit, where did you guys purchase the parts? Did you search the junk yards or go to the parts houses/dealerships? Of course opinions about your lifts would be appreciated as well.

The Tundra TRDs in front ride and flex great. But will give ~2" of lift (each year 4runner sat at different heights from the factory). Keep thin in mind when you look for LC coils for the back.

The stock LC coils also ride and flex great. They do compress under loads so If you carry a load normally, you may want taller coils. If your load varies from a light load to heavy load then LCs may not be for you. I had 9 wraps and with my normal (full skids, cargo/sleeping box, tools and some camping gear) I had about 3.5"-4+" of lift. When I loaded down for a longer camping/wheeling trip I would loose an inch or so.

***note. I have had TRD, 9 wrap LC, 890, 891 and am now on ToyTec COs w/861s***

I run the LC coils in the rear, and as far as offroad they are fantastic. They flex great and provide a smooth ride on and offroad, but tend to produce more body roll around corners than others. As Gerdo mentioned, they do seem to compress more under loads than other springs. If you plan to tow a trailer or load up frequently, you may want to get a stiffer coil or consider running airbags. I run 9 wraps also, and with my cargo box loaded with gear, rear bumper with the tire carrier the 4Runner sits perfectly level. I'm getting about 3.5 inches of lift out of it.

I find the best way to get LC coils is to watch forum classifieds like a hawk. Go to sites such as ih8mud.com or others which are popular with the land cruiser group and keep an eye out for those that are looking to upgrade their suspension. I was able to find mine for $20 for the pair. The key is to wait for good deals. Good luck

yeah good luck. it takes dedication if you want to get a good deal! and you're not the only one looking so you gotta be quick! i found my trd coils at a junk yard 200 miles away for $50 (i got super lucky). my LC coils i found at a local yard for $40.

the TRD coils gave me less than i hoped. it gave me about 2 1/4 up front (with the stock bilsteins) and the toytec 3/4" top plate spacers and ext. studs. and the LC gave me like 4" in the rear... i'm not happy with the rake but i'm getting the 5100's soon so i can level out.

Don't get me wrong. I really liked my LC coils. I just needed to be able to tow and haul my loads better.

FYI
Stock LC coils are a 170# spring rate and stock 4runner coils are a 160#.

Thanks for the comments. I might need to rethink the LC rear coils. I have a heavy boat that gets hauled sometimes and I plan to do some camping/trail riding trips in it with the kids. Anything give a good ride for a daily driver and not sag under load? Is that possible?

I love the ride of the Tundra/LC setup, but I don't tow a ton; only a few times a year do itake the pop-up out for a family camping trip. To me, it's worth it seeing how the rest of the time is me driving on the highway or back and forth to work. I have thought about going with some OME 890s for the back, but not just yet...

I found my LC's on IH8MUD.com (several get sold there), but you can find them at junkyards pretty easily too. I also found my Tundra coils at a local junkyard as well. Both were relatively easy to find and get. I'm sure if you keep your eyes open and look around you'll find some!

Good luck!

The Tundra coils I would buy new, they are 120 apiece online. They are kind of hard to find used in my opinion. I am running front Tundra Bilstein 5100 shocks with them. In the rear I have OME 890's with 95 Landcruiser factory Tokico shocks. I love my set-up. The LC 7.5/8 wraps gave me to much body roll so I swapped them out.

What LC coils do you have to match the TRDs?

Match is a strong word, ha... My LC coils lift the backend about 3.5 inches (after it settled) and the TRD Tundra coils (with blisteins) lifted only 2.5 inches. Of course, the tundra Blisteins are only on the second setting (soon to be raised). However, the ride is nice enough! Way better than the stock. The LC's were the 8wraps, btw. Check out my lift thread in my signature for the details (pictures of the Tundra and LC coils are in there).

Just a thought, but I initially used the entire Tundra strut assembly up front, but shortly after switched to 5100's and continued using the Tundra spring. The dampening on the 5100's and additional height were sooooooooooo much better. If there is any chance you might switch to 5100's some time in the future I recommend just getting the 5100's in the first place so you won't have to do the job twice (or get aligned twice)

hey marc did you go with the tundra 5100 or the tacoma ones?

He was explicit in his post, you must have missed it:

Hey Eddy, to confirm I did go with the Tundra Blisteins. Seemed to be the right choice to go with the Tundra TRD coils. I think the only difference is the number of "settings": Tundra's has 5 and the Tacoma's have 3 (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Just my opinion, but you don't have to go with tundra stuff up front. I picked up a set of toytec/eibach springs for $100 almost new and a set of Bilstein HD 5150 brand new for $100. That's $200 for an awesome front 3" lift which would match the l/c 8 wraps perfectly. I then picked up a set of ome 891 medium duty for $90 shipped and found a set of almost brand new Bilstein 5100 rear shocks for $200. That's $490 for a practically brand new, bad A, 3" lift that rocks the Tundra/LC lift IMO.

listen to this guy ^ i did my lift last weekend and i'm switching to the 5100's this weekend.

and yeah keep your eyes opened for other stuff too. you may change your mind when you find some OME 881's or something.
