Tundra/sequoia wheel balancing problems

So I got some 265/70/17 duratracs on my tundra 17's today and the shop had a hell of a time balancing them.

I told them I didn't want any weights on the outside and so I was looking at having 6 ounces of the sticky weights on the inside rim, so eventually after spinning the tire on the rim 180 and trying again I settled for the clamp on rim weights.

They told me the rim was designed for those anyways and so my balance would be better but I don't like having 4 ounces hanging on the outside of the rim, needless to say I'm not happy with the outcome. Americas tires is the company that installed the tires.

I'm thinking of taking the tires to a different shop and seeing if they can do better

Has anyone else had a problem with these rims and or tires?

One more thing my rims now have gouges where they hammered on then tore off weights trying to balance them.

i wonder if they set up their machine wrong.

i have done thousands of tires. when i say thousands, i mean it. although im pretty young, i know about balancing tires. (now ive got my credentials out of the way)

when you balance a tire you have to calibrate the machine.
1.the distance from the inside of the rim to the machine.
2. the width of the rim (this is where they most likely messed up, explanation to come)
3. the diameter of the rim (17 in your case)

so back to the part where i think they measured wrong. on step 2 your supposed to measure from lip to lip, (we use big claw type things) but they measured the width of the wheel instead of measuring where the weights should go (aka on the inside of the rim) so say instead of an 8 inch wide rim and mounting the weights on ether side 8 inches apart, you are supposed to measure say 5 inches because thats where the weights are going. Not the width of the rim.

so after that explanation, i would take them to a different shop, tell them you want the weights on the inside like you already are talking about and make sure that shop had whats called a road force balancer (simulates actual road force on the tire when balancing, equating to a near perfect balanced tire, acting like its already on the vehicle.

so call around and find a shop that has a road force balancer.

I will give that roadforce balancing a try, it's sad because they were willing to let me out the door with a ton of weights on the rims like 5-7 ounces and just push it off as that's what Goodyears quality is. Not till I mentioned something did they try rotating the tire on the rims, I just think that I shouldn't have to keep them honest they should have done so without me saying something. I worked for Goodyear a long time ago and only did we let that amount of weight pass was on the 37' and maybe 35's and other then that we would try everything in the book to get the best possible balance, with least amount of weight.
