Tundra TRD springs on Tacoma Billy 5100 D558

So I've been waiting to get my order of Tundra 5100's from Wheeler's only to be told today that they're out of stock until the end of April. I've already got the Tundra TRD front springs waiting and I don't want to wait until the end of April to get the Tundra 5100s as we're going down to Canyonlands before then. Josh at Wheelers suggested the Taco 5100 D558's if I need the shock right away but I haven't been able to find any info on whether those will work well with the Tundra TRD springs or not. I'm worried that the Taco shocks won't be able to control the heavier Tundra spring; I don't have any armor on the front nor will I get any in the near future ($$$$).

So I guess the question is do I get the Taco 5100s or shop around and pay more for the Tundra 5100s from someone else? (Wheeler's was quite a bit cheaper than anyone else) If anyone can chime in with advice or link to a similar discussion I'd appreciate it.

Any reason why you're not looking into the Tundra 5100's (B-6929)? They have 5 adjustment settings, vs the Tacoma's 3 settings. The Tacoma springs are the exact same as the ones for our 4runners (D558). You can get both of these from Toytec. Even if you click on the shocks for the 4runner, you're taken to the Tacoma ones.

Yes, those are exactly the shocks that are backordered from Wheeler's. I don't really want to pay Toytec $55 more for the same shock ($249 @ Toytec vs $195 @ Wheeler's). Who knows if Toytec or anybody has the Tundra 5100s in stock. Wheeler's said "These shocks will not be built nor make it to us til the end of April. It is a huge parts number discontinue that Bilstein did at the end of 2013. So I have quite a few customers that have been waiting for shocks since January. " I just wanted to know if the Taco 5100s could handle the Tundra TRD springs in case I can't find the Tundra 5100s.

Well AutoAnything has them for 212.38 for the set, no tax free shipping, so I'm going to order there. I'd still like to know about the Taco 5100s though, just in case AA comes up empty like Wheeler's did.
 
I just got my brand new tundra bilsteins in the mail today $177 shipped. From ebay, vendor called hardpartsfast.

Packaging was new and bushings and bolts still in original plastic. (I bought some previously that weren't I'm plastic). Came with two stickers for additional horse power.

Ordered Thursday night. Came today from FEDEX

I just looked through their ebay store and looks like they don't have any more. You got a screamin' deal though. :)
 
Well, everything I've tried is leading nowhere. Nobody will have the Tundra 5100s until mid-end of April.

Has anybody used the Tundra TRD springs on the Tacoma 5100s?

You didn't try the links I posted did you (post #13)? I just asking because I picked a random one from each link and sent them a message. FYI, they had both in stock.

I already answered this question for you in post #2 (see below). Tacoma 5100's are the exact models that go on our 4runners! So yes, they'll work, and yes it's done all the time.

I bought mine a year ago from Low Range offroad. They were as cheap as anywhere else and cheaper then some places.

I did. I called everybody I could find on Ebay, Google, locally, nobody had them. Summit just got to me and said they had some, so I got them there. Yay! $25 more than Wheeler's but whatevs. :guitar2:

Yeah I knew they would fit, I was just hoping for some re-assurance that they wouldn't be too out of control. It's all good now! :peace:

Smarter minds than mine will have to answer most of that for you. I do know that DownSouth emailed me today about the fronts:

"These shocks are indeed currently on nation wide back order and they are
due in at the end of March or 1st part of April per Bilstein."

So if you do get that set it may be a while before they get the front shocks back in and work through any backlog they have.
