Turbo 3vze - bad idea?

I'm looking at getting a 3.slow that the previous owner slapped a turbo onto. My question is, could the turbo have damaged or put too must stress on the engine? The HG's already been done, but as a motor with well known HG issues, would the turbo make it even worse?

If I get it, a 3.4 swap would happen down the line, but I would still need a reliable engine for a couple years until then. Thanks in advance for your help!

Personally I wouldn't consider it.
That engine is flirting with disaster to begin with.
But that's just my $ .02.

Especially if the owner slapped it on as opposed to coming that way from the factory.

I think you're probably right. There's a 99 limited 5 speed V6 with the factory rear locker that I'm also considering, but its a little more expensive and has some pretty beat up paint (pretty sure a poorly done respray). I think it's the better option.

Not to mention it will never pass smog, unless you're not ever driving it on a road. If you put a 5VZ-FE in a 95 or older you'll need to see a smog referee to have it pass. Just buying a 96 or newer will make things much easier.

The sad thing is, a turbo'd 3VZ-E probably puts out as much power as a stock 5VZ-FE lol!
