Turbo Started Screaming at Me...

I had the turbo rebuilt at T&E in Arizona (they specialize in Yota turbos)...2000 miles ago. Today I was driving back from an off road club meeting, and a few miles before getting back, the turbo started whining loudly...like WAY louder than before...almost like a siren was going off under the hood.

Ideas?

My first guess would be the blow off valve may be stuck partially open.

Sounds are hard to diagnose without hearing. Whine like it spooling or whine like a bearing about to go?

Make sure its getting oil. Id inspect the turbine before driving it again..

Just got off the phone with T&E...gonna take it off and send it to them. Hopefully they will warranty the work. I may just upgrade to a T3...there's a shop in AR that has a conversion kit with a T3...pretty much ready to go.

I'm pretty sure it's the turbo...the screaching noise follows the boost gauge in pitch, and has replaced the normal noise.

I guess we'll see!

Careful upgrading the turbo. The ct-20 is rated for about 5psi (iirc) and the ecu will cut fuel from the engine at about 7psi of boost. If you want to upgrade the turbo look into the ct-26 that came in the supras.

You might want to make sure its actually the turbo before you send it to them and have it be something else.

From what I understand...the T3 isn't much of a performance upgrade as it is more a superior design...but runs about the same, and genuine parts are available.

As for the turbo...I'm 99% sure that's what it is. The dead give away besides the screaming pug replacing the normal spooling noise...is it won't do it in neutral, standing still...the turbo won't engage at all when the vehicle isn't moving...even if I rev it up. No screaming while parked...gotta be the turbo.

My wife got tired of me driving her 1-ton dually...so she ponied up for the GT25R Garrett T3 upgrade from LCE Performance.

Swap complete today...took her for a spin.

*It was the turbo. And now we are all good. In a dirty, naughty, filthy way...SCOOOOOOOOOOOT.
