so I took out my 85 runner tuesday it's the 3rd time i have had it out when i got home i did the crawl around to check for any issues and i noticed the seams at the bottom of the doors on the tub , the paint cracked and even on the fiberglass top under the rear side windows . i know that runners have issues with cracking the body around the firewall but thats after years of wheeling . Does anyone else have this issue ,is it something to worry about? Has anyone added stiffeners to the frame?
there is no rust on it so the frame is in good shape! I am thinking of dumping the bumpers to shed weight and yes i southern bumped a ledge but not that hard :wtf:

The rust at the bottom of the door is common.
The only rust I'd really worry about is frame rust.
It can get really bad and it doesn't show until its bad.

I'm not concerned about rust it's the movement in the joints i worry about if it is flexing there then eventually it will crack in the seams I just wondered if anyone worried about so as to take proactive action. from the looks of things you've wheeled your for some time and you have had no big issues ? right?

The only major rust issue I've had is the infamous Toyota frame rust problem, on my 83. It got so bad I had to replace the frame.

I've had all the minor rust issues like over the wheel wells, etc. and no big deal.

I wouldn't worry about it. The only place I've cracked / torn the frame is around the steering box with crossover steering and 39.5 pitt bull rockers. The body will flex with the frame but its interesting that you are seeing seam separation, and your top cracking. Can you post up some pics?

the top looks like paint only but the body doesn't crack.jpg
