Turn DRL ON/OFF on 2007 T4R

Perhaps what isn't being said in this thread by those opposed to T4R DRLs is they want to be stealthy at night; you know, like stalking someone or doing some other mischievous stuff...

One of the problems I've encountered with the DRLs is when I roll up somewhere and wait for someone with the engine on at nite and need the A/C, I turn off my lights and they switch over to DRLs. No way to turn off the DRLs except to turn off the engine, set the parking brake, and restart the engine.

DRLs are silly. I had mine turned off at the dealer. They can change the programming. If I need lights, I turn them on.

My sentiments exactly. Toyota never programmed the driving lights / fogs lights / DRLs correctly. I should be able to have my fog lamps and DRLS on independently of my driving lights. I also had the DRLs turned off.

Another one - if the the DRLs are so important, then why aren't the tail lights also turned on? I mean, if the oncoming driver can't see me, then the same rule applies to someone approaching from the rear (and rear lights are needed then too).

Just turn the lights on all around the vehicle if they are needed.

Yeah, it is the same switch you use at night. You just turn them on during the day.

I'm asking if there is a mod where I can turn a non DRL 4Runner into having one. With a Tacoma, there is a flasher you can buy that did this.

Seriously, maybe this is a dumb question but do all 4th gens have DRLs? Because mine doesn't seem to have them (or maybe they were disabled by the previous owner?)

I normally drive with my lights on anyway, a habit I picked up in Germany 25 years ago, but the one annoying thing is that switching on the headlights also dims the dash lights - which means that if I'm wearing my sun glasses, I can't tell when some of the HVAC controls are illuminated. I either have to take off my sunglasses or turn off the headlights.

I'd be interested in a DRL mod just because it would let me run with my dash lights un-dimmed during the day. However, I would also want the option of switching them off.

As for the poster who asked why not have the tail lights on during the day, it would actually be safer for the tail lights to be off because it will make your brake lights stand out that much more - the difference in brightness between no lights and brake lights is greater than the difference between tail lights and brake lights (though having said that, though, the LED brake/tail lights on the 4runner are plenty bright, I certainly have no complaints about them.)

I know I needed DRLs but didn't see much use in having the turn signal lamps come on during the day so I wired the fog lights so they come on instead but since they also are down low and hard to see I wanted a brighter light up higher so I bought a set of Philips LED daytime running lights like Mercedes, Audi and Lexus use and mounted them in the space underneath the hood above the bumper. They are $159 on Amazon, are very bright and come on when the engine is started and shut off automatically when it's stopped but you can connect a switch or have them turn off when the headlight comes on if you want.
BTW, most of the old folks who are retired and the snowbirds around here can't see anything smaller than a Buick so DRLs make your vehicle easier to see in the daytime to help prevent them from running into you!
