Turn signal does not cancel when turning one direction

Hi guys

The turn signal auto-cancel does not work in one direction on my truck (can't remeber which) - in other words the turn signal does not switch off after I've made the turn and return the steering wheel to the straight ahead position.

Has anyone had this? What was the solution?

I can see it either being the stalk switch (for lights / turn signal) which is cheap to replace, or the whole steering wheel assembly which is not.

My contacts in my turn signal wore out. So I bought an aftermarket turn signal. Well it wouldn't latch or disengage after the turn was made. So what I did was take the contacts out of the China after market one and put them in my OEM. Been a year now good as new

Since it turns off in one direction and not the other I would lean towards it being the turn signal stalk

So your turn signals stopped working? Mine work fine, they just don't switch off automatically when turning in one direction. If my signals are working, I don't think it can be a contact causing the problem - surely it's a mechanical process to switch the turn signal off again?

My contacts literally warn out. Nothing was left. So they couldn't make contact. When I priced OEM I said no way. So I found a A/M replacement. Worked except It wouldnt stay engaged at all. So I just replaced the contacts in my OEM one eiry the chineses contacts and solved my issue. If the will not stay engaged until the turn is complete that sounds exactly like my chinese replacement did.

I'm guessing since you're in the Netherlands, finding a used turn signal stock on a wrecked 3rd Gen 4runner might be difficult. Maybe a seller of a used one on Ebay would ship one to you. Also, I bet there's someone on this forum that has one they'd be willing to sell you. Lots of guys on this forum visit PicknPulls and other wrecking yards to grab parts that they need.
