Turning off auto lock

I want my doors to lock when I shift out of park, but stay locked when I shift back into park. I found the instructions in my 2017 manual and have tried them numerous times, but nothing changes. What is the secret?

I had just that done at the dealer. They did it no questions asked, free of charge.

I think I got mine working right...I’ve only been on one drive since then though so I’m not certain. What I did was cancel out the current setting first (in my case it would lock going into park, so I cancelled that first), and then I was able to enable speed based locking. I also turned the key back off fully after each change. Did yours do a lock/unlock cycle automatically to indicate that it made a change? I found that if I held the lock button too long, it also wouldn’t register the setting.

Yeah somethings definitely not right then. Did you make sure to have your door shut, turn your key all the way to on (not acc), and then immediately press your lock/unlock button? Hold it for it 5s (I just count to 5 Mississippi), and then release the button. It should do a lock cycle to let you know something has registered.

Just bought my 2017 Off Road and found a procedure posted on a dealer website that describes how to "reset" auto lock on a Corolla, so I thought I'd give it a try before purchasing a programming app or going the dealer route. It worked, with a tweak... after a few tries I realized "reset" means setting it to the default auto-lock mode, so instead of pressing the Unlock button during the procedure I tried the Lock button instead, and it worked!

Here's what worked for me:

1. Turn off vehicle, close all doors, and leave seat belt off

2. Turn the key to ON (do not start)

3. Turn the key back one place to ACC, then turn back to ON

4. When seat belt light flashes on dashboard, press the Lock button on the door and hold for about 5 seconds (when light stops flashing)

5. The locks will cycle to let you know the change was applied

To return setting to auto-lock (when shifting out of Park), follow the same procedure using the Unlock button instead of Lock.

Glad to see you got it working. I never had to turn mine back to acc for some reason. Guess Toyota likes to keep us on our toes!
