I have been looking for a while now and am in a conflict. I have found two nice trucks. One seems to be a really good deal and the other a really nice truck (limited) which is a so-so deal. Opionions please!!!

'05 TOYOTA 4RUNNER 4X4 SR5

2004 Toyota 4runner Limited V8 4x4 (fully loaded, clean title)

And yes I know they are in totally different ends of the country. My brother-in-law lives an hour away from the one in florida and is coming to see us on the west coast in october. He is willing to get the truck for me and drive it out. He is also very trust worthy and I trust him to inspect the vehicle and advise me well. But I am conflicted. I really like the bells and whistles on the 2004 limited as well as it has less miles. the 2006 seems to be a pretty good buy though.

Please give me your opinions.

The 05 sounds like it is in better shape. The CD player in the Limited is shot. Do you want the extra bells and whistles in the Limited? After driving the Limited for 7 years, I cannot live without my heated/power seats, auto headlights, dual climate, and navigation system. What are you going to be using the truck for?

160k on a chassis can be a lot. The engine is probably fine but bushings and bearings etc. wear out eventually no matter how much magic Toyota sprinkles in there.

That said, when I was researching my purchase it seemed like East Coast, including Florida, cars tended to get some rust issues. If you have your bro-in-law look at it make sure he checks the frame underneath and inspects all of the little screw and bare metal parts under the hood. If they're getting corroded then it's got a little east coast syndrome.

Regarding the bells, whistles and niceties; that's a very personal decision. I just bought a 2004 SE v8 w/100k and the only thing I would change is maybe leather seats because the cloth ones keep static shocking me. Lol. But that's easily fixed with covers. I do like the cosmetic changes on the 2006 + front ends but it seems like there was a huge jump of about $7k around here for those and I didn't find it to be that important.

A good service history, ~100k miles and sport or limited were my top three criteria (other than price range of course). But we all have our priorities. Happy hunting!

oh argar..u r still searching??.....same as me!...the 2 cars i posted the links on this forum were snapped up before i could blink!..so am leery now of posting links..conspiracy theoriest huh!..lol, so am still searching..will check out one i saw in VA today

back at topic both cars look ok..though i think 166k miles is quite a lot...it shud be going for a lot less...then the other one @14500 is ok..but try and get the seller knock of a few quid from the price.
cheers

um maybe northeast coast would have rust issues not south east lol unless the truck originated up north in ownership. I vote limited V8 Cause I drive one and would never go back to the V6. theres posibly more maintainence long term for the V8 due to timing belt instead of timing chain and with the full time AWD you'll change the front diff fluid more but aside from that love the limited options love the V8 power love the truck period I drove a V6 se for a while and it was a great truck but I couldn't look back after driving the V8 I loved the extra power in the same truck

If I had to choose between the two, I'd select the Limited. However, I'd also be concerned about Sears replacing the shocks and struts. I know the Limited has that rear airbag system, which I'm not a fan of, but doesn't also have XREAS? I'd be curious if Sears removed the XREAS system.

Also, the limited appears to have more rack than normal (sitting high in the rear). Could just be the air bags are pumped up.

160K is too many miles for my comfort.

Plus, why not spend another $2K-$3K more for fewer miles.

Also, get the V8. Most people on here regret having a V6. LOL Don't hate on me.

4runner sale

I still have an 03 V8 sport for sale at $14k with only 87000 miles and a 05 for $15500 with 117000 miles

I think someone misread the info on these guys. they are both v8´s and 4x4 one is a 2005 with 160k miles sr5 for 9,500 and the other is a 2004 limited with 123k miles for 14,500.

The limited is quite a bit ahead (except for the color) in my book but I cannot just totally discount $5,000 difference (that´s over 50% more!)

But I appreciate all of the opinions.

Please keep them coming!
