CBI Ditch light brackets mounted. No hood issues after trimming a little plastic. Just used a sharp pocket knife to slide the plastic off little by little until the brackets completely cleared it with hood closed. One tip I have is to outline the hood bracket with black sharpie before taking the bolts out so you can realign it to the factory spot when tightening it.

To ensure the hood fits back flush, make sure the order you install the CBI bracket is like this: Bolt head, CBI bracket, hood bracket, hood.

Think I will have to pull the rear bumper trim back off and trim another 1/4" or so off of it as it is rubbing on the bumper during body flex situations. Not a big deal but makes a lot of noise. Bummer.


Also, looks like I'll need to install some airbags to help with trailering as we are tentatively going to sell our mule and pick up a small travel trailer to try out. With more trailering it will really help to have air bags that I can air up when trailering.


Lastly, I've talked to Steve and am thinking that I might wind up looking at new rear coils once I get the rest of my weight on like the skids, front bumper, winch, roof rack, etc. Reason is that with the rear bumper, swing arm and can carrier, the rear is really feeling the weight. Might end up custom ordering some coils but will see how it goes once I get the other heavy items installed.

Not super thrilled with the resulting gap but had to cut more off the rear trim to get it off the bumper as it was touching during body/frame flex. Honestly, from distance it doesn't look like any big deal to the casual observer, but what bothers me is the fact that the two large cabin vents are very exposed now. Not sure of any way to improve that now. Anyway, I have two more small areas on the very back that need a tiny bit more trimming to keep it from touching and all of the moaning, groaning and rubbing noises should be gone.

On a separate note, I sold my Kawasaki mule yesterday and am purchasing an R-Pod 171 travel trailer this weekend. In that light, we got a Tekonsha P3 brake controller installed and also went ahead and ordered today an airbag kit for the rear springs through Steve at Sonoran Steel. I'm still considering a heavier set of rear coils too as I continue to add weight to the truck. Regardless, all of the above will help with trailering for sure.



And the last little tidbit of good news is that my Shrockworks skid plate set shows that it should be delivered from UPS Freight tomorrow. Whoop, Whoop. :biggrin1:



Doubt I'll get the front Shrockworks bumper in time, but at this point I'm getting close to being ready to hook up the camper and head to the Toyota Jamboree over in Gilmer Texas, as that is still on my radar screen if I can get a few of these things worked out in time.

Don't laugh but I'm pondering how hard it would be to get some 31 to 33 inch tires on it using 4Runner wheels. LOL

If you buy this camper out west it comes as the Hood River Edition with axle riser and 15" wheels with off road all terrain tires. Not sure what size but they look like 30ish inches. Unfortunately we can't get that over here but mine already has an axle riser on it so who knows what might fit. Will need to measure it or see if a higher riser could be used. Would be nice to have matching wheels and shareable spares. :zoom:

Are you concerned about the bumper vents getting dirt in them? I wouldn't worry to much. I have had my bumper, granted it is different, on for over two years and barely have any dust that made it past.

Yeah, I was thinking they may get dirt or water in as the flap is always stuck on the bumper when I look.

Thanks. It's not exactly the Offroad camping trailer I setout to get but it makes the family happy. It will certainly take some time for us to get it outfitted in a way that is best for us and makes best use of the minimal space with a family of 3 plus a big dog.

Ha. Thats a sticker on the door. Just picked it up and everything is brand new. What's nice is the microwave is a convection oven and grill also so it has some versatility.

On the AC I wouldn't buy one down here without it. It has a central controlled 20k btu gas furnace and a 13.5k btu AC. All the comforts of the big boys in a small compact 18' package.

How about pulling the fenders? Would they fit then? or even add a set of spacers to bring them out? I guess you would have to get a 6x139mm hub too though. I am sure you could easily get bigger fenders from almost any trailer shop.

I would have to use some hub to wheel adapters to convert from 5 lug to proper 6 lug. Then would have to get an appropriate sized tire. Honestly I prob won't mess with it any time soon but it sounds cool.

So what kind of towing temps are you guys seeing?

I'm getting 188 to 190 on engine, 185 to 190 on transmission and 190 to 203 on torque converter at 81 outside ambient temp under tow with this camper. I'm guessing a trans cooler will help but should I bypass the radiator like on the 3rd gens. Anyone gone through this on the 5th gen?

Install an aux tranny cooler between the radiator outlet and tranny. Don't bypass the radiator just install it after that... Think of it as your first stage cooling.... With any sort of hills or mountains your temps will jump significantly.
