Good save on this truck. I bet if you went back and told "Bonner & Son" how easy it was to fix, they'd be kicking themselves for not doing it themselves and turning a quick buck on the job. Not to mention the P.O.

You know, it's funny actually, once I started talking about the truck and showed that I knew what I was talking about, the guy at Bonner & Sons became very tight lipped. After I got it home and started looking into it, I PM'ed the PO to ask a few questions and he basically replied "I don't know what to tell you man." So I left it at that. I'm not sure if they know something I don't or if it's the other way around. But so far, so good.

I have my '97 Limited on eBay right now. I'd love to keep them all but I don't really have the room.
 
Well, at least she is looking good! I was happy to see a picture, she (well actually he now I guess since it is tyrone) cleaned up well after that and glad to hear it wasn't a cracked head. Sure, sucks for me, but ended up with a solid truck out of it and she is back on the streets. Hope to see some more updates soon!

Did you wind up buying that Z71? Sounds like a nice truck if you did.

So far, nothing is sorted on Tyrone yet. But all signs are pointing to the motor being okay. It does have some rattles though so it may get a rebuild anyway. Once I fix the slave cylinder and go through it I'll be able to determine if those rattles are from the motor or elsewhere.
 
I did get the z71 silverado. 04, 80k miles, one owner, 4x4, leather, whole 9 yards. So far it has treated me very well, only thing I am kicking myself about is gas, but has a lot of extra space, so its a trade off I guess. Hopefully later in life I can return back to a 4runner but we shall see, for now I am just glad my truck is running.
 
Put about 100 miles on Tyrone today. Ran like a champ, I'm impressed. Hopefully new slave cylinder will be here tomorrow or Monday from RockAuto. I need to source some odds and ends for him still but all in all, I'm happy.
 
So, I took Tyrone in for state inspection and emissions today. The shop I go to is owned by my buddy Ralph who is a Toyota master tech. Needed nothing to pass inspections or emissions.

ABS light is on. Wheel speed sensor on the RF wheel.
Slave cylinder is weak. (I already knew that and ordered a new one)
Little bit of play in the ball joints but nothing bad.

All in all I'm pretty happy. Tyrone is proving to be a beast.

Installed a new Aisin slave cylinder today. Did a sh*tty job bleeding it though. Will correct that tomorrow with a reverse bleeder.

Also changed the oil. Then drove it to go golfing. Didn't quite fit in in the parking lot. ;)

Are you a golfer? Planning on going to the US Open next year? It's just down the street from me, less than a half mile walking.

I'm a bad golfer. I've played maybe 10 times in 15 years. My wife and son went down the shore yesterday, all the yard work was done Saturday so after I got done wrenching yesterday me and friend went to play golf and drink a lot of beer. It was a nice day to hit some balls and drink some High Life.
 
That's nice, it's good to get some time away and just hang out. I was stuck on the 42nd floor of the Comcast Center as we have a major release going in for the Compensation software.

Went on a bit of spending spree for Tyrone today.

New Denso O2 Sensor
New NGK wires
New NGK Dual Ground Plugs
New Mann Fuel Filter
New PCV Valve

and the goodies:

Used Steering Wheel (T4R) mine is beat to hell and back
Used Shift Knob (eBay) Again, mine is beat up pretty bad
Used RF Wheels Speed Sensor (T4R) to clear my ABS light issue

And the real goodies...

Used LC 8Wraps (IH8MUD)
New Tundra TRD's (YotaTech)
New Bilstein 5100's (YotaTech)
New Bilstein 5150's (Shock Warehouse)
 
More spending. Bought some Treadwrights. 285/75/16 Wardens. I've wanted to try them just because there seems to be so many people passionate both for and against them. Wanted to see for myself.

Also, another surprise coming for Tyrone. I'll keep you posted. ;)

Did you add the glass/shells to the Wardens for extra grip?

No supercharger yet, I'm too cheap. :) But if I happen to find a good deal on one, we'll see...

Tyrone will be kicking some a** once work stops kicking mine. I have all this stuff sitting and no time to go work on it. Hopefully in another few weeks.

Awe man. I hear you though.

Definitely looking forward to your report on the tread Wrights. Looking at getting the same in the next couple months and you definitely know your stuff. Did you go with the kedge grip they advertise?
