u-bolt lift

sry that im not as talented as you.......................not

Talented? How about "educated"... Walk out to your truck and look at the suspension components. Find something that resembles a U-Bolt or a leaf spring.

And 13 seconds after clicking search...

the way we got them out was to get a deep socket with wrench on the nut up top and hold the wrench in place, then the other person had a huge pair of channel locks and turned the upper part of the shock to loosen the nut.

I put a socket on the top nut, cut off the dust shield and turned the shock shaft with vice grips. Takes forever but it works...

Only access is from the bottom and it's all by feel. When I installed my lift I used a ratchet and socket and had a buddy hold it while I turned the shock itself. Use a lot of lube on the nut, just put the straw on the tip and spray. Also removing the wheel will help. Hope this helps

And for your lift options...

1. What will the usage of your vehicle be like? percentage of street and off-road
2. What type of off-roading? Fire-road, mud, rocks, desert
3. What is projected budget you are willing/ able to spend?

You can get a complete OME set for around $700 good for daily driver and mild/moderate off-road

Toytec Ultimate Lift with Coil-Overs about $900-1000 good daily driver and moderate to heavy off-road

Sonoran Steel various kits up to $1500 the SS1.2 decent daily driver with heavy off-road.

The two most knowledgeable stores with 3rd Gen Runners would be Toytec Lifts and Sonoran Steel Custom Metal Fabrication L.L.C.

Understatement.

Anyways... My suggestion to you since you are "still saving money for mods"... Keep reading and looking and researching before whipping out a question like that... Lol... I wish you woulda dropped this on Pirate... THey would have LOVED it over there...

Good luck to ya bro!

Just wanted to say that I'm kind of disappointed in how the OP was treated in this thread. This forum is normally better than that. I've seen dumber questions on here before and people treated with more respect than that. There would have been nothing wrong with explaining to him that the lift he posted was for leaf-spring applications and our 4Runners are coil-sprung.

t4r4life, I hope you stick around and don't think that every question you ask will get answered like this as we are normally a pretty mild, helpful bunch.

Patronizing is all part of the fun of getting to know people. I don't think I was "disrespectful" and if I was, I sencerely apologize.

One reason I don't frequent this board like I used to was because of all of the clutter of new threads about the same old thing... YadaYadaYada... I'm sure it's a gripe that alot of us have... A simple search of "3rd gen lifts" would have answered his question. I think my responses were pretty "mild", and I think I answered the questions he presented... Maybe a little antagonizing but it's the internet... C'mon... :)
