UCA or Not

Hey guys,

I have been reading and reading and talking to installation guys, in a total quandary here. After MUCH research, (hopefully coming to the right decision) I have ordered the OME BP-51 lift kit for my 2017 TRDP. (Please don't tell me I should of purchased another model, I like this one). I dealt with the folks at Toytec and they had a hand in guiding me in this direction. When I asked if I needed to purchase a UCA I was told I didn't need one with this lift. I do have the SSO front bumper and winch, Gobi Rack and such. I am hoping to get 3" out of the lift to run larger tires and have as good a ride as I do now.

help me out please, people who have done this, will I regret not going ahead and getting a UCA and doing it once now? this is a DD for me.

Thanks for your inputs and thoughts.

I would say go with adjustable UCA's to be safe. I lifted mine a little more than 2.5" and now I'm going back to install UCA's to fix the alignment.

If you're going to set it at 3 inches - yes I think you will regret not getting UCA's now. Your caster will likely be very low - in the 1.5* range. That's not enough caster for easy comfortable highway cruising. It'll require a lot of driver input to keep centered in the lane.

By installing them now you'll also save the cost of another alignment when you do replace them.

Also - don't buy the EBAY ones... ask me how I know. I've run 4 different UCA's. Stock, EBAY, Tough Country, and JBA. I recommenced JBA for a lot of reasons. In my opinion ball joints are preferable over uniballs and rubber bushings are preferable over poly. JBA has both a HD ball joint and rubber bushings. UCA's experience very light loads - so strength is not a concern unless you're actively racing in a SCORE type series. The primary concerns should be range of travel (some shocks offer enough that the OEM ball joint won't work), durability of the ball joint/uniball (sealed, greased ball joints last longer), and durability and NVH dampening in the bushings. IMO rubber is better.

The only thing I would change on the JBA arms would be to add adjustable ends to them.

That's my opinion. YMMV.

Good luck.

Thanks Guys, I also just called ARBUSA, (after my DUH moment, and they are very helpful guys), and they said while it was not required, they would recommend it as well for a DD. They highly recommend SPC as that is what they run mostly, (other option was Camburg), and as I am trying to install it myself this weekend, I just ordered the SPC UCA's from amazon with the 2 day shipping to match when my lift will get here.

Really appreciate the comments!
