they were rinsing my car prior to a car wash with a pressure washer and this "just happened" on a light pressure :ak472::gun6::bash::redbrick:

Ouch man, that's scarry to think that our paint could really be that easily peeled off...

What's the standard policy for reimbursement if our vehicles are damaged at the dealership?
 
I hate dealerships! My wife took her 4R to the dealership for service and said she was going to get it washed and I said NOOOOOO leave washes to car washes. I can't believe they would take a pressure washer to a vehicle. Todays paint isn't what it used to be since it's made enviromentally safe... Thanks government for mandating everything!
 
The complimentary dealer car wash seems like a great idea... Except for the fact that they rarely care for the car the way many owners would. I repeatedly requested that they not wash my 3rd gen and they did it anyway.

When I took my 5th gen in, I put a note on the steering wheel and asked the mechanic directly to do me a favor and make sure it doesn't go through the wash.

Anyway, a pressure washer should never really be used to wash the painted surface of a vehicle.

It looks like there might have been a tiny rock chip (maybe even invisible to the naked eye) and the pressure washer just got in there and literally tore off the paint.

That sucks and I'm sorry to see that it happened.

Before they do anything to fix it, talk to a couple of body shops to see if a spot repair is possible or if the whole hood should be repainted. Then insist that the dealership do it the right way.
 
A pressure washer will not do that, either something else scratched it damaged the paint beforehand. I wash my truck with a pressure washer all the time, great way to get bugs off

EDIT: most likely the guy hit it with the end of the nozzle

Exactly, I use pressure washers a lot, all it takes is a pin-hole in the paint and the pressure can rip the paint, IF they got too close. Honestly I could see the person getting too close with the tip, maybe physically dropping the tip on the hood creating the break in the paint, then the water did its thing before he could release.

We can all guess away, but I did not see you post that you notified the dealership of this damage, did you?? When you left of when you got home? Did you find it or did they show you what they did?

Agreed.... or you had a rock chip already.

I've been taking my car to DIY spray washes for years and never even heard of such a thing. Even the car washes here 'prep' the cars with 2 guys on each side with pressure washers.

Be interesting tho, how they handle this. Take the blame and offer to fix it, or attempt to blame everything else under the sun.
 
Ouch :\ I would be pretty upset. I agree that pressure washing should definitely not cause that type of damage. I'm not sure what your dealer does, but mine here completes a "walk around" of the vehicle every time I bring it in for service. (The same type you get when you rent a car). They mark any noticable dings, dents, etc so that should something happen, they can validate with 100% certainity that it was thier issue. It protects us both.

Please do post and let us know how the dealer handles this and I'm sorry to hear about your truck. :\
 
i dropped it off this morning at 7 for them to fix an issue with the windows. i got a call at 9 about the paint. they said they were going to run some tape tests on the paint to see if this is a problem. not sure how they are going to fix it, i will be pissed if they spot fix it and its obvious, or if they paint the whole hood and it is noticeably not the same color as the car.

car has 2500 miles on it, i doubt this was due to a rock. its common for dealerships to use pressure washers for detailing cars. when using the highest pressure nozzle it is possible to peel off paint. however in the situations i have heard of the car was a few years old.

Do not accept a spot fix. I wouldn't accept anything but a complete hood paint and blend into the fenders. With the paint being new you can probably get away with not blending the fenders, but I would definitely expect them to paint the whole hood.
 
If I have any issues I want the dealer to deal with I go to Groove Toyota (formerly Burt) on Broadway and in the last 13 years I've never had an issue with them working on my truck or my mom's Limited that she bought there back in 2000. If you live in the Denver area it is worth taking your Toyota here for any warranty or major job.

I'm just too particular for a spot fix. I run a paint and body shop and we won't even attempt it. You can "burn" the clear in and then buff, but especially there on the leading edge of the hood, there is a very good chance that it could get damaged again. Besides, the vehicle wasn't that way when the owner brought it in, the least they can do is sand and paint the hood again. They would have a very small area of color and then clear the thing. More than anything, it's the principal of the matter, the vehicle was practically new, and they damaged it. That kind of thing just burns me up. Regardless, I hope they fix it to where you never know it was there.

I hear you, My brother owns a detailing company and my old man is always scratching his truck up so I'm pretty familiar with body stuff too. Personally I'd probably be fine with a spot fix, but thats because I would know my brother would make sure it was done legit. I'm not sure you could pull of a whole new hood.
 
just got off the phone with the manager. they sent the truck to the body shop that does all of their work and they are repainting the hood. i am eager to see how the paint matches up
