Uh....anyone else getting 21MPG?

I'm getting a healthy 14mpg or so, all stop and go, city driving, and only freeway rides for a couple of miles. I probably have a lot to do maintenance wise, though.

Right there with you! like 17 at best around town.

It sucks, but im sure everybody on this site knew what the mileage was going to be prior to buying a 4runner, haha not the most practical in terms of gas...

But they sure are a heck of alot better to drive than a prius, no offense to the prius guys on this site...:redbrick: :thumb3:

On the highway 4runners all seem to be great, my 2.7 is awesome. In the city the mileage falls flat on its face. Wish I had a 5spd to control it better.

And those keeping your truck at 60mph, I don't know how you do it. I have a hard time keeping it at 70 lol must be a age thing

I average about 230/tank and that's about 90% hwy. with 10% being city.

Although Within the next month or so, I will be doing(Or getting done) a plug/wires, TB/Aux belts, diff/tranny fluids JOB.

I get at best 13mpg 95% city driving.
What little straight hwy driving I have done I think I am getting about 18.5 MPG so far.

In about 2 weeks I am going to be changing water pump all belts and changing spark plugs and wires.
Doubt that will change much of anything as nothing has so far.

2nd full tank fill up yesterday and I'm getting 18.89 city/highway driving and doing my BEST to keep it at 60mph in the highway.

I get about 20 mpg overall with our '01 SR5 4x4 auto. Truck has 235/75r15s on it. Sees about 50/50 city/highway. 93,000 miles. It's behind on maintenence too. By comparison, my '03 Xterra gets about 14mpg overall. I've been very impressed with the 4Runner.

By the way, running higher octane in a low compression engine does nothing but cost more.

Stock I was getting anywhere from 19-21 depending on how I drove. With the lift I avg about 15, best of gotten out of it was 17 with the ect and cruise control on.

My mileage varies so much it's rediculous. Between the summer and winter and obviously city and highway driving.

Summer: on the highway I once saw 23MPG but normally get around 20 when loaded down and driving 65-70MPH. 15MPG city stop and go traffic.

Winter: on the highway I get 18MPG and 13.5MPG city. garbage.

But, it's not necessarily the trucks fault (unless you badly need maintenance). So much of it has to do with the time of year and the fuel. Refiners change the ingredients of the fuel, based on the season. As the weather gets colder, different additives are used to increase the oxygen content of the fuel. Lighter, lower boiling point fuels (high volatility) are needed in the winter to reduce hard starts and reduce emissions, especially when the battery may be cranking less than normal. In the summer, it's the opposite; heavier-ends and higher boiling temps are the goals. In short.

On long highway trips I can keep it at a pretty steady 20mpg unless I am fighting headwinds like on my trip to DVNP in March. Fighting headwinds the whole way (west) MPG dropped to around 18.5. Best MPG was Eastbound on I-40 from Flagstaff and then North on US491 (a/k/a Route 666, the Devil's Highway) to Farmington, NM. 312 miles, 14.14 gallons for a 22.1 mpg average.

I got 28 mpg from Ft. Lauderdale to Naples crossing Alligator Alley in my 2000 SR5. I set cruise control at 70 mph & let everyone pass me. Go figure. In town I get 21 mpg.

WOW - thinking about calling BS on this though - DO NOT see how its possible unless you were being towed or pushed by a hurricane.

I didn't either!!! I divided the mileage covered by the gallons purchased. Why I love my 4Runner...now remember it was on cruise control as well at 70mph...

Had a nice 30mph tail wind on the way home from visiting family during the holidays. Got 23.5mpg calculated at the pump. My usual highway is 21 or so. 67mph. And I try to "draft" big rigs as much as possible without being a **** about it (i.e. they can still see me).

I got 21-23mpg on my trip to Wisconsin a couple weeks ago. Using 87, with the truck loaded with luggage, presents, etc. I was pleased.

Hell all yall seem lucky. I get roughly 16 with an all stock limited. Thought I was getting horrible until I looked up the orignal window sticker and it said 17 city, 20 hwy. So at 16 on a 14 year old truck im all good with it.

I have had a few tanks that got 24.xx mpg.. but recently I've been in the 16-18 range. Super odd because I was CONSTANTLY getting at least 20mpg. I am stock except for a deckplate mod.
