Under hood storage

My fellow 4th-gen drivers.....

So I'm trying to get my rig a little more prepared for some overlanding or just general offroading. I've done a bit of lift and better tires along with some interior storage for recovery gear and tools. I'm slowly going through all the systems and changing fluids or replacing worn components.

Along the same line I'd like to bring along some spare fluids (other than fuel) on some of my adventures. I'm not running a dual battery setup so there's plenty of room on the passenger fender area and just behind the headlight.

I don't want a bunch of plastic bottles rattling around under the hood where they might end up against the exhaust or bust open on a sharp bolt head. What other ingenious ideas have other folks come up with? It might be time for a trip to the dollar store to see what plastic bins I can scrounge that will fit.

Plastic bins UNDER THE HOOD? Really? Pyrex containers for keeping your trail food hot... maybe, but not plastic bins under the hood.
Have you already filled the insides of the rear body panels?

Yeah, I know...plastic under the hood is crazy, right?? OH wait....the hood scoop, ductwork, plenum, battery, fusebox, all the reservoirs, fan, and most everything else under the hood are plastic....and don't forget the "under hood" air compressor setups.

I wasn't really thinking so much of cheapo thermoplastic but more like a pelican case, cut down 5-gal bucket, or something. However, you never know what kind of crazy stuff they have at the discount stores. One of the wire basket garbage cans might even fit the bill.

There are a couple of spots that I'm guessing are threaded inserts to bolt down a factory battery tray or similar on the passenger fender. If I can find an ammo can the right size that would be a winner (strong and waterproof). I'm just spitballing here but I'm sure someone else has already come up with a better idea.....:hello::hello:

Maybe a big PVC pipe with threaded end caps? Could take the heat and waterproof. Then you could just slide a few bottles of whatever you need in there.

or Get metal Ammo cans...

If you want to store spare fluids under there you may also need to find some sort of durable vented containers to store the fluids themselves in even if they are in a strong box. With the many large temp increases that occur everyday under there the regular plastic oil quarts would crack and leak.
