Underbody Shots... bad?

Looks pretty standard for a chicago truck. Mine spent the 1st half of its life there and that is only slightly more rusty than mine. I haven't run into any of the typical rust issues like snapping bolts or anything...

Price wise, keep looking... unless you can get it for no more than 5k... I can look at any here in phx az, just let me know.

Check rear lower control arm mounts (especially where the muffler meets the control arm) , the gas/evap lines near the rear, rear axle pumpkin to see if there is any leaks.

If those are solid, then its probably fine, just use this to lower the price significantly. if he is still selling at a high price, then avoid.

Keep in mind salt brine, does affect bushings. so suspension might be all over the place depending on miles. I'd keep your eyes open, and only take if you get a good price or plan on doing a suspension overhual.

also check on both sides on the side of the frame, going to and from the rear. make sure there is no signs of cracking in frame or it getting eaten alive. that suspension is still savable, but depends on the price you get it for. if its a high, you probably can still get better.

We do have a 3rd gen buyers guide that is pretty comprehensive of all common failures.

Way I look at it is that I could spend 1k extra and get a rust free 2003-2005 4runner with a v8 from the south. I talked to the owner last night on the 01 and he wont go below the 7500. No biggie... just keep looking.

Does he think bc he drove it, it adds value? Someone is living a fairy tale life.

Go with the V8... *hides from the 3rd gen owners*

I'd say talk him down to 3-4.
sadly I've rarely seen people sell a 130k mile 4runner for LESS than 4k, and mostly those people didn't know what they had. the person selling it at more than 7500 show they know these are worth it, and he'll get good money, why let it go for 3k when you can get 6k+? the seller know's what he has, and wants to milk.
