Thanks Doc2012 I never knew that. Knowing that the 1st gen tacomas and 3rd gen 4runners have similar products that's came be shared will definitely help me out with my build. It just pisses me off that websites and manufacturers totally leave out 3rd gen products but produce products for 1st 2nd and 4+
Not a problem man.
I do agree with you. The ammount of crap out there for other generations is rediculous compaired to the 3rd Gen. BUT, as long as you know what you're looking for, and have the willingness to
slightly modify some of the stuff you're looking for, you'll be perfectly fine with getting stuff for a 1st Gen Tacoma.
OBVIOUSLY, there are some major differences, but, here's a short list on what IS interchangable:
Basically the entire drivetrain, with the EXCEPTION of the rear axle(except for me.

) Anything off a Tacoma, again, except the rear axle, will work on a 4Runner. Transmissions, transfercases, front differentials, Hubs, engines, shocks, CV axles, Ect ect. It's all the same. As long as it's got the same engine. You CAN NOT take a 2.7L Tacoma transmission and bolt it up to a 3.4L motor. That's why there's so many people that do the manual hub conversion. The spindles just bolt right up to the upper and lower control arms. Think of it this way. ANYTHING on the front of the truck/4Runner is swapable.
Think of the Tacoma as a chopped 4Runner, or the 4Runner as an extended Tacoma. The main difference between the FRAMES, is that the 4Runner frame is FULLY boxed all the way back, while the Tacoma frame is boxed to the back of the cab.
MOST Tacoma's, with the exception of the TRD Tacoma, have an "8.4"" rear diff and axle housing, along with leaf springs. That is NOT compatable with YOUR 4Runner. (See build thread below to see one that is. tehehe.)
HOWEVER, if you were to find a rear diff from a TRD Tacoma(those are usually E-locked), it will fit into your Runner rear diff as long as you have an e-locker, or so the e-locker mod.
I've also noticed that my '95 T100 has interchangeable parts with my '02 4Runner. They both also have the 5VZFE.
The Motors are the same, though some have differences. I know for a fact that the 96-98 4Runners and the 99 4Runners have different injectors.
Usually everything will be the same for the 5VZFE, but small things like the injectors and suck might have some differences. But, you can just take the injectors out of your motor, and put them into the other one. It'll still work just the same...
