Up close with the 2021 4runner headlights

In any case, looking again the poster's original photos, the front of the projector housing is definitely different than that of both our 4runners, and would imply that an upgrade to the new LED headlights would require a new 2021 headlight housing.

Indeed it appears that the original halogen projector lens is certainly re-used otherwise why would they have put a shroud around it with a slight awning look at the top. Seems they spec'd a specific LED bulb, highly focused presumably but stayed with the parts bin everywhere else. The illumination however coming out of that original projector designed for wider halogen shine is likely the reason for that black ring there so the LED is focusing the same and providing the same throw down range... that's what I see.

But - if the price for the whole assembly is similar to what they are now (reasonable) I'd consider it to match my OEM LED Fogs installed so we shall see what transpires here I guess once the first person attempts this (presuming there isn't additional wiring logistics involved too). They probably know it will be a popular set of parts.

Co-worker just bought a 2020 Nightshade and I can confirm as well that low’s and high’s are incorporated into the low beam projector. Output for both are quite nice.

Any 2021 Pro or Limited owners around - could you post a picture of the plugs / harness into your lights? Looking to figure out how to get harnesses made so the rest of us can "upgrade" our lights.

I have a 2021 TRD Pro. The low beams, high beams, and fogs are all LED. The DRL lights are halogen but do have an option to be disabled from the Settings via access on your JBL touchscreen. I just took this photo of the harness. The twist bulb is for the DRL. The low and high beam are a combo LED and they are fantastic! Incredibly bright and have a great field of light.

Happy to help! I do love the new ride! I had looked at a 4Runner 2 years ago and I was in disbelief that it did not have LED headlights. I liked the nightshade features but preferred the look of the TRD Pro. Long story short, between that and the fact I wanted 3 rows I bought an Armada which has LED headlights but halogen fogs. My wife drives that now but the Armada also has fantastic LED headlights with an adjustment for how high or low the beams project. We keep those lights on the highest setting and I would say my 4Runner is at about the same level.

Has anyone mentioned how the DRLs are setup on the new lights. Is it still based on PWM and the highbeams?

I tried installing the Xenon Depot Xtreme LED w/ DRL driver and it doesn't dim. Tried the new Morimoto 3.0 w/ DRL driver. Same thing, doesn't dim and it goes on full brightness like it's on high beam.

I don't know much at all about 4Runners, their history, failures, improvements, .... Anything.
For the last 35 years I've been selling Production Torque Control Tools to Assembly Plants. John Deere, Chrysler, GM, Ford, Others.
When I retired as an Independent Sales Rep, I only sold Panasonic Cordless Tools.
My biggest account was John Deere and John Deere was their biggest account in the US for Panasonic.

I'm telling you all this because I'm in the room discussing improving the capabilities of Panasonic Tools with the Design Engineers from Panasonic and Manufacturing Engineers with John Deere.

The Panasonic Engineers NEVER failed to bring what was asked for and always added to the list.

What I'm saying to keep this shorter. The Japs are really keen on listening to their customer. Their taking notes for a reason.

That being said, they (Panasonic) would never come out with something that wasn't 100% proven. That usually is minimum a year. Sometimes longer.

The good thing about that is, once introduced.... It's gonna work.

just purchased a 2021 limited and changed out all bulbs to led except the DRL's... i havent had any luck with LED's working in the drl spot has anyone found a solution to this?

The best I can do. Weird spot on both projectors. good cut line, but can't figure out the 2 spot voids. I'll try turn off the warehouse lights but the afternoon sun pretty harsh still.

Hello all,
I think what I see in my LED low beam when projecting on the wall after looking and thinking about it.... others I’m sure may have stated this, I think this is the LED Module hanging down in the reflectors, producing the light.
I find this annoying. That being said, they perform very well on the highway, with the exception othe the dark spot increasing in size the farther out the beam shines.
Just my opinion.

I have the boslla led for high beam. Single color. Red bulb. Not dual color. Doesn’t need a driver and works as DRL
