This vehicle is looking better and better IMHO. I can't wait to get rid of my stinky 4Runner for one of these. :banana:

I will miss the power rear window on my 4Runner but I definitely won't miss the toxic cloud of sulfur stench that it produces every time it is on a freeway (even cruising)! :rant:

Finally, a vehicle that isn't an EMBARRASSMENT to drive!!

That does look good! Doesn't look overly bloated like some other new SUV's you see on this forum. :lmao:

But, take it from a Jeep owner, you will probably have more problems than a sulfur smell on the highway. I wonder why your's is so bad, I only get the occassional sulfur smell, usually after hammering down.

The new JGC should be an excellent vehicle all around. Jeep is pulling out all the stops to try and prove they can make a world class vehicle.

And my 4Runner stinks almost EVERY TIME I drive it. It does it during stop and go traffic and whenever I go on the freeway and exceed 60 MPH. :redbrick:

I can minimize it by driving like a little old lady but I DON'T DRIVE LIKE A LITTLE OLD LADY. :rant:

I'm going to work with a Lawyer to try and force Toyota to buy my POS vehicle back.

I think the front end looks bad.

I bet you'll end up with more problems with that Jeep than the 4runner would have given you.

It is terrible to see though, that Toyota isn't making a great vehicle anymore. Just compare the 3rd Gen to the 4th and 5th. The quality in the 3rd is much better.

An embarrassment? Really? There might be something I little more to this issue than just your toxic cloud, which is likely your catalytic converter not being properly warmed up, cause I don't get that smell after it's hot.

But to each his own... even Jesus wasn't loved by everyone. (btw not equating Jesus to my 4Runner...haha)

I see the original owner has been on here since '03 so has he been tolerating his 4Runner for almost 7 years and now is figuring out it's hard to live with or has he owned other 4Runners.

I like the looks of the new Grand Cherokee. Looks really nice overall, but if you get rid of your 4Runner, I bet the one thing you will REALLY miss is the reliability of the 4Runner. Jeeps are nice, but they are nowhere near as reliable and trouble-free as a 4Runner.

If your major gripe is about the sulfur smell from your exhaust system, I can help you out. I hated it too, so I convinced the Toyota dealer to swap the catalytic converter out with a new one that was supposed to be upgraded and wasn't supposed to stink. I was surprised that it still smelled almost as bad as the original. I was fed up so I went to a local autoparts store and purchased an aftermarket unit for $380. It is awesome and my 4Runner doesn't stink at all anymore! Best money I ever spent!

So instead of getting rid of your 4Runner and spending all that money on a new Jeep that will probably end up giving you a lot of problems (especially since its a new model), save yourself some money and just replace your catalytic converter!

I can only assume you're joking, right? I mean, I haven't heard of any 4Runners that have had the unintended acceleration issue.

Even if the problem is real, it has been proven that a vehicle cannot overpower its brakes, so I don't understand how these people who claim unintended acceleration are panicking so much that they crash into a lake and die. I don't get it....the car will still stop even with the gas pedal mashed to the floor.

Yeah, but you're missing the point that a car should NOT do this in the first place. People in the Ford rollover incident should have checked their tire pressures more frequently or buy a different tire brand...stupid on those people for sticking to a cheap brand name tire company, right? So, why should Ford be at fault, given your logic?! People not allowed to panic?

But at the same time, people who are crashing are obviously panicking without a clue how to control their car. First, the brakes should still stop the car. Second, throw it into neutral. Third, if all else fails or you have brain freeze, turn off the ignition. The brakes booster will still have enough vacuum to allow at least 3 or 4 full applications of the brake pedal before losing the "power" brake system. And despite popular belief, losing power steering isn't a big problem like the media portrays it, especially a car going straight ahead (where power steering isn't needed) and/or at a high rate of speed. Actually, the steering will always work even with the engine off, but of course it will take more muscle to turn the steering wheel.

No need to be sorry. It's only moronic to you. To me, hitting the brakes, putting a car in neutral, or even turning off the ignition is common sense and good advice to those who don't know how to react in a panic situation.

I understand that most people on this site (who own 4Runners) believe whole sale in that creamy Toyota goodness but not everything that comes out of Japan smells like roses and not everything made here in the United States of America is automatically crap.

If you believe we Americans can't produce a quality, reliable product then I strongly suggest a plane or boat ride to another country or maybe you should re-examine your beliefs and own performance.

The upcoming Jeep Grand Cherokee will be an ALL NEW vehicle and Chyrsler is pulling out all of the stops to make it a hit. This is in no small part, an attempt to prove to the world that Chrysler and Jeep and make a world class vehicle.

And unlike the 5th Gen 4Runner, the upcoming Jeep will actually be an improvement in every way over the previous model.
