Update on the blurry mirror side mirrors issue

So...today I ventured to my Toyota dealership and had the techs, assistant manager and manager of the service area take a look at my side mirrors and sure enough they all agreed that they were blurry and unfocused...actually to make it more clear the PASSANGER side mirror was much MUCH more blurry and unfocused than the driver. Actually upclose on the drivers mirror things look blurry but when looking at objects in the distance they appear crystal clear...however that is not the case with the passanger mirror.

What the dealership did was pull another brand new 2006 4runner SE off the lot and into the service area to compare mirrors and to my SUPRISE the passanger mirror was the exactly as blurry and as unfocused! WOW! I couldn't believe it and neither could the tech/managers. It was a new issue they've never seen. So becuase a new 2006 4runner SE has the same issue...they deemed the condition as "normal" I don't mind though...just as long as its not my sight and my brain.

Oddly enough...when I went up to my Honda accord and my sisters infinity and looked into their mirrors...both drivers and passangers were very crystal clear.

So this issue so far seems to only be isolated to 4th generation Sports Editions.

Now...I wonder if there are different part numbers that represent the actual side mirror itself for the SR5, Sports Edition, and Limited.

People with the Limited 4th gen. said they had no problem with this condition.

Strange.


But after seeing that brand new 2006 4runner SE w/ the same issue as me...I feel alot more assured thats its not me.

interesting.. that's weird.. especially if it only on sports.. i haven't noticed blurriness in either mine or my dads.. now this makes me curious.. but we both have SR5s..

Yes it is very interesting..

the only way I could see this getting resolved....if this really is a problem at all...

is by Toyota issuing a recall...isn't it called a TSB or something?

but then agian...4th gen has been out since 2003 and well......ya know how this would play out.

I just find it so strange and I kind of want an official answer.

I know for the most part...the side mirrors are usualy just for glancing at and then being on your way...but...the idea of them being blurry and all...just don't know if thats the right thing and all...know what I mean. Especially considering it could damage ones eyes perhaps if stared at too long.

I have '05 SE and my mirrors are fine...Maybe its just an '06 thing?

that is quite possible too...but a couple people with 03/04/05 have also said something about it...

then agian,

not to mention that even the brand new 06 SE had the same problem as I did and the managers and such were all there to see it and agreed....it was weird.

I have an 05 SE, and I have not noticed that my mirrors are unfocussed or blurry...

Perhaps it IS only happening on 06 models.

maybe it;s has to do something with a defected heated mirror that warp it?? you know the side mirror are plastic and not glass right? I sure it's normal since you're not going to be looking at it from 6 inches away.I just look at mine up close and it fine.

even so, I'm just really suprised to see that my mirrors were EXACTLY as blurry as the brand new 06 SE that they drove off the lot and parked behind me on the service lanes.


Just don't get it...

But if I let it bother me enough...I could always order the drivers side mirror and the passanger side mirror...I know you can pop out the plastic mirror and then replace it.

only question is how much would those reflective plastic panels cost?

The only reason..and I completely understand...why they didn't replace my mirrors today at the dealership was becuase they had solid evidance that "thats how it was suppose to be" according to the brand new 06 SE we all looked at.


??? weird. Just glad its not my eyes...would hate to have to get glasses or contacts... blah!!
