Upgraded Speakers

I recently purchased my first 4Runner. 2005 Sport Edition V8...LOVE it...except the stereo.

Yesterday and today I replaced the factory, paper, dilapidated speakers with some new Rockford Fosgates. The difference is amazing, even with the factory head unit.

Front Speakers:
PRIME Speakers - R169X2 - Rockford Fosgate®

Rear Speakers:
PRIME Speakers - R165-S - Rockford Fosgate®

I removed the factory tweeter out of the front door. I clipped it (rather than unplugging it) so the wiring for the 6x9s would still work. Lazy but it works.

The 6.5" speakers fit nicely (with adapter of course) but there was no place for the component tweeters to fit.

I was a little nervous about drilling into the door of my newly acquired ride, but it turned out looking great!

Today I found a Rockford Fosgate amp, brand new, for 1/2 price and will be installing that to run the speakers when I replace the head unit with a Kenwood Nav system.

I'm pretty pleased with the results and more importantly, the wife approves of the sound upgrade and look of the tweeter mounts.

Thanks! I was pretty happy to discover they'd fit there nicely.

I'm purchasing everything to do a full upgrade.

I have an amp wiring kit (4-awg), distribution block, 75x4 RMS Rockford Fosgate amp, wiring harnesses in my possession.

I'm waiting on a Kenwood Navigation system, steering wheel control adapter, sat-radio adapter, and a 8" Sound Ordnance subwoofer to go under the seat, and random other items.

I'll be installing all that and running new speaker wire to all the speakers as soon as I get everything gathered up.
