Upgrades for '94

I have a 1994 toyota 4runner with the 3.0 v6 i love this truck so much! having said that so far i replaced power steering pump,most hoses, belts,radiator /
hoses.....and tires of course the guy before me left it in the yard like most of these beauties. So now that ive got her running like a champ i have been looking every where for upgrades(turbos, superchargers,etc).I know these arent the speediest vehicles made but i want to turn it from a little beat up into a prerunner that turns heads! so if anybody has any idea on where to find upgrades for a 94 3.0 v6 i would appreciate it.

There are no safe turbo or superchargers for the 3.0. Unfortunately that engine was just not designed to be tuned. You can put headers on it, but the increase is HP is negligible at best. To get the best out of your 3.0 you need to make sure that it stays as close to stock as possible which means that any parts you replace should be replaced with OEM Toyota parts.

OEM parts that should be checked or replaced:

O2 sensor
Plugs (NGK)
Wires (Denso)
AFM (Denso)
Radiator
Throttle Positioning sensor
PCV
EGR
Distributor and cap

I'm sure there is more, but I think you get the picture.

If you don't want to invest a ton of time and money in to your 3.0, there is another option. You can swap the entire engine for a supercharged Toyota 3.4. It bolts directly to your tranny and engine mounts. There is wiring issues to deal with, but the swap is well documented on Google.
 
I put in a K&N cold air intake into my '94 runner. There's controversy over whether or not they actually provide a power increase, but I love the sound and feel of it. I know for a fact that after I cleaned it the other day it felt so much better than before.

Or maybe new muffler and such? I had a spintech performance muffler on my 4r awhile ago but I changed it back to stock because I got sick of the droning taha.

I found a site called autopartsfair.com that has several used motors ranging from $1000 to $4500 (price depending on mileage) and with the 3.4 what kind of wiring issues?

Smooth air in and smooth air out never hurts. Solid intake (see AFM) and a solid exhaust definitely helps.
 
K&N and similar filters suck. That said, I still have one. They barely filter so they flow well.

If I didn't have two other cars to have fun with, I'd probably do a remote mount turbo on it. maybe I will later on... and if the engine goes to crap, a turbo 3.4 is ready. hah.
 
Yeah, AZ, unfortunately there isn't much you can do to boost the performance of the 3.0, which is why there's always so much talk about engine swaps for it. I've had three of the critters, and about the only things you can do are cold air intake, headers and free-flow exhaust, and reprogramming the computer (JET)...all of which, if done together, will cost you about $2k and gain you maybe 30-40 hp. Woohoo. So it's easy to see why people just swap in something else if they want real gains.
 
How about some pictures of this AZ 94. On my end of town I just don't see many 2nd gens. Lots of 3rd and up. I saw a 2nd gen yesterday, but that was the first one in a while.
