Upgrading from 2011 to 2016/17

I currently have a 2011 4runner trail. I've had it for almost 5 years and I am ready for something new.

I absolutely love my 4runner. I like the fact that I can fold down the seats and haul stuff inside my car. I like how roomy it is in the backseat. I love the well it does offroad and in the snow.

I started to look at trucks this year thinking that's what I needed/wanted, but honestly I think I may just buy a trailer for the rare occasions I need to haul topsoil, equipment, logs, etc. to my house. Full-size trucks are too big for me to park around the city or in my garage. Mid-size just feels like a girly truck and not enough space inside the cab. (no offense to anyone that has one, it just doesn't feel right to buy a mid-size).

My problem is it just feels weird buying the same car just a few years newer. I love the newer body-style of the 4runners. I am leaning towards either a cement trd pro (If I can find one) or a TRD Premium.

Anyone here have any experience moving from a 2010-2013 to a newer 4runner and how do you like the newer one? Any projections on the 6th gen that should tell me to wait for it?

I just upgraded my 2011 SR5P 4x4 to a "new to me" 2014 Limited 4x4 with low mileage. Pretty much the same thing, except I LOVE the full time AWD on the Limited and the JBL system. My wife enjoys the dual climate control. It has 3rd row seats, that I doubt I'll ever use.

I just bought a 2018 and i was under the impression all 2018 came with a 3rd row but they do not, which sucks... Does anyone know if that option can be added after the truck was purchased?

you can, its a little bit of work and you will need to find someone selling their seats and trim panels to trade

did you not look at the vehicle before buying? they didn't let you do a walk around?

I'm in the same boat. I want to upgrade my 2011 to something newer, but there's hardly any real changes on a 2018. And I feel the same about trucks. The midsize just feel weird. And while I'd like a full size truck, I really just don't need it.

I've been looking at GX's, just to mix it up a bit, but still get the same things I love about the 4Runner (minus the roll down rear window). Or I might just try to hold out till next spring and see if the 2019 4Runner will finally be the next gen.

I went from a '11 LE to a '15 TRD Pro. No regrets at all.

I miss the interior plastics and orange instrument illumination on my 2013 trail but that's small in the big scheme of things.

If it runs, don't subject yourself to a new car note.

It's quieter, shifts more better, cleaner, smells nice, the windshield isn't sandblasted, and, um ......

I remember why I put Bilsteins on the '10 now, and I'll have to go get the caster pushed out, and the lame-ass headlights fixed.

But still, I can afford most anything but a LC, and this is what I want. I can fix the same pimples it had in 2010.

I have gotten several compliments from ppl in my building over the front end, FWIW.

My '01 had better headlight output than my '16 does. Only thing I was disappointed about.

We just recently went from an '11 SR5P 4x4 into an SR5 4x4 both with third row.

couldn't be happier.
The look of the updated 5th gens is so much better IMO.
No chrome, leaner looking, and we just wanted new.

Very happy with the switch on our end.

Good move on nixing the mid size truck idea.
Four months ago I traded my 2011 Tundra in on a 2017 Taco thinking I "needed" a truck. I hunt, mountain bike, fix stuff, etc.. and felt like I had to get a truck. One week after owning the taco I realized I made a huge mistake. Drive it for seven weeks and traded it back in on a 2017 ORP 4Runner and love it.

The Tundra was too big for my current needs and I already had a small utility trailer so no love lost there. I'm really digging the 4Runner and although I lost some coin, I'm really glad I ditched the Tacoma.

Can you afford it?
Do you want it?
