those Budbuilt look great. IMO the Dobinsons are lacking. Severely. DK sells a bushing/ball joint upper for 550 IIRC. And their welds actually look like welds...not bubblegum.

What are the Dobinsons severely lacking?

What is the value of a heavy duty UCA? Are people bending or breaking their UCAs that aren't made of boxed 1/4" plate?

I'm aware of only one OEM UCA ever having a failure and it was the result of something like 10,000 race miles on a Land Cruiser 200 with 37" tires in the 2016 Baja 1000. The 2010 Toyota 4runner finished the Baja with stock control arms. It's the closest analog I know of. Has anyone ever bent or broken one on a 5th gen? Is there a reason for wanting something stronger?


I'm certainly not doing tens of thousands of miles of this (don't get me wrong, I want to, but realistically I'm not doing anything close)

Only reason I went with aftermaket UCA's is for the extended travel coilovers. Stock ones were rubbing.. Would've left them stock otherwise and confident they will last the abuse without issue.

I also think uniball UCA's are overkill unless you have your 4 wheels above ground more than on it. Extra squeaks and needs maintenance, no thanks.. Hence why I went with JBA balljoint UCAs. No issues yet and quiet as stock:

Late response but...

Ive had these on for about 6 months now with zero complaints:

Daily driver, but they've seen their fair share of trail time. Ive added the top dust caps since that pic as well.

Copy that. Guess I'll find out; they had a sale going so for the price I figured I'd give them a go. They might not be an Icon but hopefully they'll work out and not require any maintenance or make any noise. We'll see what I get.

Phew...Read thru this whole chain.

Looks like the most tested and versatile are the SPC's, so I think I'm going that route.

The JBA's are a nice option, but I don't like the potential to rub (although I' using aftermarket wheels/spacers).

Look up SPC failures before you decide on SPC They're on the 4th? redesign & I have zero faith in them. It's also not just our arms, they make parts for everything from rice to race. Google search revealed failures across the board. Your money, your truck, just make sure you've got all the info before you spend your money.

How often are you having to maintain the bushings? What type of bushings are they. I ask because I have to grease the heck out of my TC bushings and it’s getting annoying.

Getting the SPC arms installed today, and thinking of raising the front end from total +2.5" lift to about a 3.5" lift.

Can they handle a 3.5" lift and remain in alignment spec?

I got almost 4 inches out of my lift (Icon Stage 1, not sure wtf happened) and the SPCs work but don't expect 4 degrees of caster. I'm at roughly 3 after having switched from the Camburgs because of bad tire wear and twitchy handling at highway speeds.

Sure, you're CV axles won't like it much though.

Look at the newer SPC's....zerk, adjustable with a strong ball Joint and +2 built in for about $400

Where did you find these for $400?? I'm seeing 5-700.

$473 on Amazon right now.......I paid $399 so yes they went up but still a bargain.

Went Dobinson as they were virtually maint free (sealed ball joint) and rubber bushings.

Install was pretty easy with a BJ press and all. At the end of the day, if a new BJ is needed its easy enough to do.

Also helps that I got a great deal on them too!

They first came with a welded tab, and the abs wire bracket was supposed to be bolted on, but some were just using zip ties.

It comes with a stud welded onto the arm now, so the bracket that holds the abs wire goes onto that stud.

Was tempted to go w/ JBA's, but I don't really want red, since my 4R is black w/ black wheels.

We will see how they do.
Do you have re-grease these things? I haven't found any direction, but I am guessing they are sealed, so no re-greasing is needed?
