I have an 08 Urban Runner. The stock head unit with detachable TomTom is downright awful. I'm sure it was all the rage back in 2008, but in 2015, comparing it to what my phone can do, I'm sorry but it sucks. So I need to get another head unit. I'm thinking single-DIN at this point, because 1.) $700+ for an Andriod Auto head unit is too much, 2.) the cheaper 2-din's aren't that impressive to me, 3.) since I've got a phablet anyway, I don't need a 2nd large screen on my dash, and 4.) I've never needed a backup camera.
Is there a dash kit that would allow me to put a pocket ABOVE the head unit, instead of below it? All the dash kits I've seen place the pocket below. I'd like to utilize the space above to mount my phone with some configuration of a Ram Mount, either by mounting one of their ball bases inside the pocket if there's room, or directly above the pocket on the dash, so that the phone would mostly cover up the pocket. This way the phone is not mounted to the windshield, doesn't block the view as much, and would not get as hot. I also plan to put this wireless charging puck on the ram mount.
Keep in mind this is the urban runner package, so I don't know if that changes which parts I might need.
