URD supercharger?

Is there anyone on the forum with the URD supercharger installed, or knows anything about it? If so, do they have it installed on an 03 or 04, or why does URD's website say it's '05+? Is it the switch from pickup to magnetic VVT sensors? Or what else?

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head... TIS and Wiki don't really mention any changes to the 1GR-FE in that model year range (we did update to a Dual VVTi in '10~11 for FJ's and I think '12 saw them for Tacomas and 4Runners, I don't remember exactly off the top of my head.)

The only thing I can think of is the pre-'05 V6 4Runners had the 4-spd tranny and maybe it doesn't play well with their S/C?

Well, I know you're not with TRD, but my question more relates TO the TRD S/C... I asked about URD because I thought maybe the TRD supercharger wouldn't work with the '04 for the same reasons the URD is '05+. I think, though, it may have to do with the Taco with the 1gr being in 05, and the FJ coming out in '07, which the TRD S/C is made for.

The difference in intake cam gears, like you mentioned, would likely cause a problem with the UCON. That would be something that would need to be discussed with Gadget. I have pictures of the differences between the two intake cam gears ('03-04 & '05-09), but my bandwidth on photobucket has currently reached its limit, so posting them would do no good right now. :/ I have a '03-04 4Runner 1GR in my Tacoma right now. Had to swap the cam gears.

Next question is, are the ecu plugs the same on your year model as the are with the '05+? If they are, that makes things much simpler, as far as plug n play is concerned.

If for some reason the URD UCON cannot work with it, then you can always use a wire in unit, to tune instead. Dezod Motorsports Inc-We ARE performance. Scion tC turbo pros! sells AEM standalones. Just look in the Xrunner section. As well as a lot of other engine components for the 1GR.

Everything else is just nuts and bolt then, so if something needs to be slightly modified, it would be easy.

How'd the cam gear swap go? Were there any problems you ran into concerning how well the motor runs? I feel like regardless of if I stay N/A or go with an S/C, the cam gears from the 05+ can't hurt.

It was a straight bolt on affair. The only part that sucks about the install, is removing and re-installing the timing cover.

Note though, that your sensor is a two wire sensor, whereas the '05+ is a three wire. This is why I had to swap cam gears. The pickup for each year model's sensors is different.

Where'd you source the gears from?

I got them from the spare heads that I have. The 4Runner engine is currently my spare engine that I am using until my built engine returns.

According to what mrpanic mentioned though, doesn't sound like you need to do anything to the intake cam gears.

Still best to get indepth info from by calling URD. I am sure they can give you the in/outs of what needs to be done. Who knows.....might even be able to use the UCON after all. If that's the case, then it will be pretty easy overall.
