USB and 12 volt power alternate functioning

Hey guys, my USB port stopped working so I plugged my phone into my 12v power and it worked. I never had time to check fuses (I assumed they were on the same fuse anyway) and the following day the 12v plug stopped working (I have a light on my adapter) and I plugged my phone into the USB and it is functioning now. Anyone have any idea what would cause this to happen? Before the USB stopped working, I noticed that the end of my phone charger was sitting in water in my weathertech floor mat, while it was plugged into the USB, not sure if that could have caused any electrical issues.

The USB outlet has an overload protection built in, so having the cord in water could trigger that. It will automatically reset when the overload ls removed.

The adapter could have overload protection too, but there are so many adapters out there that there would be no way to tell. Suggest you buy a new cord and a new adapter in case they are permanently damaged. You certainly don't want to damage your USB outlet in the car due to a damaged cord! That would be an expensive repair!
