Watch a few boat loading mishap videos on you tube and you'll be committed to 4x4 on the ramp.
Should I use the 4WD (or 2WD) to pull my ski boat up the rather steep concrete launching ramp?
I've launched the boat with my '07 2WD 4Runner for four years with no trouble.
You know why I said 2wd? Because if the OP had to ask the question he surely won't know you shouldn't turn much on dry pavement. I have yet to launch or recover a boat without a sharp turn somewhere. I don't want to read another "I turned on dry pavement in 4wd and the truck !shuddered! like crazy.
Also unless the ramp is covered in alge 2wd is sufficient with all that tongue weight.
Which engineer is right? I'm so confused.

I've never used 4wd while launching boats, with my current 4R or my previous Toyotas. I've never had an issue.

A place and a time for it, but 4lo on a freeway would not be good on any rig.
I agree that it's not intended for extended dicing in 4 hi on dry pavement. But that doesn't necessarily mean it is going to cause a component failure. In fact I'm certain it won't. In the end this is a simple mechanical device. And the components are significant stronger than the friction of the tires can apply. The tires will exceed the threshold of friction long before the components fail. This is by design not accident. 4 hi on dry pavement won't hurt a thing.

Hardly. The 1GRFE will bang off the rev limiter in 4lo all day long without causing engine damage.You know what I meant, extreme examples... And trying to get on a freeway in 4low would kill your engine before your drive shaft
