On my end, said overpriced 4R was sold. I had my chance, but I snooze I lose. Not a total loss, as this goes to show that market for a low mileage 4th gen 4R is hot and I have to be willing to over pay in my area, esp considering I have a car to trade in.
My hunt continues, which now begets the question my wife is asking. Over pay a few thousand for a lower mileage 4th 4R Limited/Sport, or now that end of year 2016 is approaching, try to get a good deal (in this area $1-2k under MSRP) on a new 5th gen 4R. Regardless which one, I want this car to last 200k+ miles. Hmm...

Would come down to also if you want the 5th gen over the 4th gen? Test drive both for comparison.
I picked up my 2006 Limited 4Runner 4x4 v6 w/ 126,000 miles on it by stumbling upon it one morning. Saw it on a local Toyota lot and my mom and I were going to go look at Lexus RX330/350's that day.
I had been researching the 330/350 for over a year and really wanted one. I had no knowledge on the 4runners except a friend of mine has a 2001 4Runner that has had no issues except a radiator in 180,000 miles since new.
Anyways, we hit up the Toyota dealer first, I test drove it twice to be sure and bought it without even going to the other dealers I had lined up lol.
Super clean, dealer maintained, 3 previous owners (1 a lease, 2 owned. The most recent was a doctor in Wisconsin who took it into the dealer for everything down to the light bulbs for the radio. No tears in the leather. Just really clean.
I knew I wanted all the creature comforts because I was coming from a 2005 Acura TL (that I sold to my sister for 5k) and the Limited had basically everything my car (including sunroof) minus the navi.
Dealer wanted $13,700.
Picked it up for $13,200. Got them to fix the chip in the windshield, replace the dead battery, give me some touch-up paint and replace the cup holder insert that was missing.
I thought it was a good price and deal all around.
Hope you get the perfect 4Runner. Sometimes you just need to be lucky, like I was.

Very interesting to see the 4runner is one of the rare vehicles that sells for more money in the U.S. vs. Canada. Back when the exchange rate was at par or close to it, everyone was buying vehicles from the states and importing them (myself included). This thread makes me feel like I stole my 07 Limited!
Exactly what I did. I took the whole family to experience the adventure. Cost me $425 for a family of 4 in airfare. Drove 13 hours, stoped and spent 3 days in Chicago and head home after....: 21 hours total driving time. Best family bonding experience. Plus I get to take home a mint 2009 sports edition with 40,000 miles.
I am getting ready to do the same thing. I can not find a decent priced 4runner anywhere locally so I am close to flying across county to get what I want. I think of it as taking an adventure :lookout:

How do these kind of vehicles exist?! That many years and that few miles smells like neglect to me. I would be so worried about seals and rubber parts.

How much was that 2005 V8 T4R back in 2005 when it was new? 3K miles for an 11 year old truck? I'm not sure if I like that. "If you don't use it you lose it" kinda thing isn't it?

It is available for sale again. I had a guy that wanted it but he has not been able to complete the purchase.
And it HAS been in my garage for over a decade! I try to drive it monthly, weather permitting. As a slightly OCD owner of several vehicles, I do everything I can to maintain and preserve them. The 4Runner is my nicest toy.

Just purchased my 4runner for 25,000 plus tax in Vancouver BC. It is in immaculate condition and only has 51000 km's on it!!! like 30XXX miles. Be patient and you'll find the right one. Also you can call toyota and ask to see if the have the service history on it. Just give them the VIN number. I was lucky and happy to hear (before I bought it) that the previous owner had it religiously serviced by the dealership. First thing I did was flush all the drivetrain fluids because who knows if he ever even put it in 4x4. Runs perfectly. I was looking everywhere though for months before this one came on the lot. Know what you want and jump on one if it's in good condition and don't wait too long!
