Been lurking for awhile, reading and absorbing info and figuring out what I want. Determined that a mid model 3rd gen T4R would work best for me with options, pricing, etc (thanks to a great buyer's guide). Came across a local CL that I'd like some advice with. From the sellers' ad:

I've asked the seller to provide a bit more info about the service hx and pictures of exterior and interior. I understand with a used vehicle that some repairs will be needed, but the 236k mileage has got me a bit leery. Also, could someone confirm if the 2000 v6 auto had a 4wd option? I keep getting confused looking at various literature and info, a definitive yea/nay would help.

Use case would be as a commuter (20 mile round trip), highway, and mild off road (fire roads and just fun times). Right now we use a combination of a Prius and motorcycles to get around, and that's been working for a number of years, but I do want a second vehicle that we can have fun in.

Thanks!
Adam

3700 is not a bad price. I would check underneath for rust, and have a peak at the Ball Joints and tie rods. If they are original those would be the first things to address. You can definitely get a V6 Auto 4x4, so that seems right.

Def look at the stuff Shadow said above. Also if memory serves (someone correct me if I'm wrong) there's a chance that 4runner may have the multi-mode transfer case.

That's a decent deal if it has indeed had WP/TB services.

No multimode in the '00 SR5, just he '00 Limited. But for $3,700 who cares?

Check it over good for rust, ask if radiator has ever been changed. If not, change it IMMEDIATELY. Pull the transmission stick and look in radiator overflow, check for pink foam. If any is present, DO NOT BUY IT!.

My guess is if it has been a FL vehicle, not much rust and probably not a lot of abuse. 236,000 isn't a lot on one of these if it's been maintained. Just like low miles don't mena a thing if it hasn't been maintained.

I'm also a bike guy. What do you ride?

If taken care of, with proof, the mileage wouldn't bother me too much. Hard to beat that price for a capable vehicle. I would probably look on, though, if I needed a dependable daily driver, which was the case for my daughter. I was willing to pay more for lower mileage and great condition because I need her to try and get 4 years of college out of it. If you have other vehicles and issues with this one would just be a mild nuisance, go for it and have fun with it.

I'd buy it. Especially for what you are lookin for. Do check what the others have posted, but I think $3700 is a great price. You'd have enough left over for several Newcastle Brown Ales, my personal fav:guitar3:

Corresponded with the seller, it's a 2WD model. Since I'm in no rush, rather wait for a 4WD to come along. Thanks for the feedback!
