If you like Trails, don't eliminate SR5s in your search. The KIA dealer where I found mine up was selling it as an SR5, had 44K miles and was 26k. Since then, I have seen other Trails marketed as SR5s. It only happens at non-Toyota dealerships.

At 86K two years later with one hiccup.

I know that people like to buy new 4Runners, but buying new is not my thing. It's a 4Runner; it should be fine to take to 200K.

The trail is more for those who want to go offroad. The Limited is more for the soccer moms or those who want more comfort creatures.

And the SR5s are for the guys who like to do things the haarrrdd way....

I ran into the same thing down here in Southern Mississippi. In December of 2014 the dealer had a 14 Limited demo with 10K miles on it, and they would only drop the price to $1200 lower than the price of a new 2015!

I tried searching around for a used 4WD online and just like everyone else has posted, used with 20-30K miles was only $3-4K (max) from the new price.

Dealer said customers get frustrated with trying to buy used 4Runners and Tacoma's all the time due to the crazy high resale, and a majority end up buying new and get the better APR and the all important satisfaction of buying new.

I'm still finding tons of 2010-14 that are hardly discounted from new. ,just with low miles are priced in the 30-32 range even for the 10-13 model Trails. Crazy if you ask me. If I could get that down to 27-28k I'd seriously entertain it.

I've never purchased a vehicle where the price spread between new and used was so close.

I've only started looking but I've noticed the same, mostly if the mileage is low, not much difference in price. Once in awhile I'll see something on line that is seems a good deal compared to the others and all it does at that point is make you wonder why. IDK, maybe a low trim model or somethng?

I just purchased a new one after being in this predicament. I went new with a Trail Non KDSS. I couldn't justify the used pricing. Also consider that if you trade in you are only taxed on the difference in value between your trade and the new(er) purchase. I got an utterly amazing deal from an in law of mine. If you guys have any family members that work for Toyota in any capacity, in laws count, see if they can get you "a letter." They subtract some amounts off of INVOICE pricing and offer dealer options to you at cost plus a dollar. So I walked out the door with a Trail and a 10 year bumper to bumper warranty for $34,8 counting the 500 bucks from Toyota for financing it through them and 500 for my military discount. They get two of these deals a year, one in the first half of the year, one in the latter half. It works on any Lexus, Toyota of Scion.

Before I bout my SR5P in August, I didn't see much cost difference between new, certified and used. These tucks hold their value like a MFR. Go new and get what you want.

I asked the sales guy what he thought the price would be and he said he thought it would be about 39K. I told him to make an offer of 36.5K because there was a dimple in a seat and the slightest scuff on the corner of a bumper. He came back with 39.9K from his manager. we settled on 38K with a 7 year 125K mile warrantee and a 50K bumper to bumper. I don't think that's too bad for a 2015 limited with 13K miles. KBB dealer trade in value is 39K.

The thing was pristine except for a few light clear coat scratches (buffed out) and a few interior scuffs. How you could justify paying 10,000 more for new car smell is beyond me. Some of you must be selling drugs or something.

a smart person would realize its not about "working hard", its about making a sound, rational fiscal decision based on the best outcome with the least amount of outlay.

implying the decision whether or not to buy a new "rig" is based on how hard you work, ie those who buy used aren't working hard enough and couldn't buy new even if they wanted to is pretty dumb.

I didn't join this forum to flame others or to read a bunch of drama ridiculing others choices in vehicles. When you call someone a fool for choosing to buy a new rig your basically saying that they don't have as good of judgment as you have so their fools and your making the wise decision. Who are you to judge another's "sound, rational fiscal decision"? This is not a economics forum its a truck forum and you shouldn't be attacking people with personal insults because of their choice in rigs. Again to each his own.

I about to pick up a new 16 trail cause the price through a family member saves me a couple K's, and there was a used trail with 40k miles that the dealer was still trying to sell for 334k. (Edit.. 33k). Lol.. Pay about 5k more and get brand new.... yes 5k is a lot, but so is 40k miles....

I'm never going to say I better, or smarter, or richer, or have tons of "disposable income", or have such income that I could buy you, your truck, your wife, and your dog (if I wanted to).... lol..

Came over from TW now that I am soon to get 4R.. can't we just agree that we all like 4runners and call it a day. If not, I'll post my IQ scores, my hot wife, the fact that I live (and pay for a Hawaii living), and my dog (that cost me more than having a kid).... lol....

That's funny... Japanese rigs, that they send to California or wherever, just to send here.... the t4r is one of tge last Japanese made and assembled vehicles that toyota sends to the US.... there is a dealership here that basically has a monopoly... we pay thousands more than the mainland, and it's not like we can drive to another state to get a better deal, or have multiple dealerships to play against eachother..

Those are the forums I joined. There's others like the NASIOC Subaru forum that have a lot of great members but also a ton of punk kids with their first Subaru shooting their mouths off and personally attacking others for not searching enough or asking a question they think is stupid. Ive seen several examples of that kind of attitude here and I hope its the exception and not the rule. Your either a trust fund kid or a person in your late 20's or mid to late 30's that can afford a 40K truck, I think you should behave like an adult, not a teenager.

I'm a late 30 with a professional career, that just sold my built tacoma, going through a "rest of my life" crisis, that can't stand the bickering, or don't care what you can afford, what YOU choose to buy or anything else.. bigger things in life to worry about... everything in life is relative... my wife (trophy - that shoots better than me ( lived in Oklahoma for years (father retired FBI). Friends of hers has a 1/2 acre, 3B3b house... 50k... that's a lexus.. (not even top of the line).. everything is relative....
