Using back while driving

Has anyone disabled the lock on the nav while driving. We just went on a road trip where our phones did not have service and we needed to use the cars nav. It was a pain to have to stop instead of my wife just typing stuff in. I know when in dash DVDs players came out years ago you just had to unhook one wire and it worked whenever. Anything similar on the 2016 t4r? Thanks. Tried searching and didn't get anything.

Edit guess my phone autocorrected the title. Mods can you fix it to say nav?

I use my voice activated nav controls while driving. I guess I never type stuff in while in motion, but your voice controls should work.

Definitely not user-friendly, but what I've found to be the most convenient is to:

1) Enter the next destination
2) Allow the Nav system to complete the setup
3) Delete the destination
4) Enter next destination and repeat 2 & 3.

Once you have the few destinations for the day entered, they will be listed in "Recent Destinations" which you can access while driving!

I installed the Crux Avity 01 which allows me to type addresses while driving. It also mirrors my phone so it can play video or show Waze while in drive.

I've searched so much for the same thing. I came from BMW's to the 4Runner. It is literally the only thing I can not stand about my 4Runner, on the bmws you can input addresses in when driving. Now I don't use my nav at all, I just use my iPhone now. I wish there was a way to bypass the lock. It seems like when you are in motion, you can only use like 20% of the features. It drives me nuts.

The voice controls don't understand coonass. They never work for me.

Thank you everyone for your responses I'll look into installing that other thing to mirror the phone. I was hoping there was a wire I could unplug or something that would fix this issue.

I wish they had at least had a "are you the passenger?" prompt like Waze, there are plenty of times when i'm travelling with someone who could easily enter stuff for me and that prompt seems like it would keep all the safety people satisfied

HA! That's my wife's problem. I can switch the 4Runner over to my phone in seconds while driving (Setup-Phone Setup-Select Phone-My phone-Confirm). It keeps saying, "Pardon?" when she tries to communicate in her rural Mississippi drawl. She has to pull over.
