No mods since my last post unfortunately- but I did find a sweet fishing trail that led to another trail that took me on a snow covered trail up into the mountains somewhere between Whitehall and Dillon, MT today.
I was just on my way home from school back to SLC and I just decided to check out this river on my way by, lo and behold I got a great chance to kick it into 4wd and do some light wheeling. The truck handled the snow covered trails with no problems of course, just like I knew it would.

Also found a really cool old rusted Case 350 diesel bulldozer and a loader to match.

Ended up making my day, and had some fun in the runner.
Unfortunately 10 minutes later I was going about 2 miles an hour on the highway because a couple ranchers were herding cattle in the middle of the highway. GO FIGURE that would happen in Montana...

Slider Build
So this is my first big modification to the truck. I built my own sliders using 2" square tube, .188 wall.
Bought 6 10' sticks, ended up with about 8 feet extra... thinking about possibilities to use the rest of the material with another project, but I'm not sure what yet.
open to suggestions of course.
By far the hardest part was measuring and cutting the pieces for the first side, I noodled on how to make the cuts for the kickout. I knew I wanted to have one, but I don't like how a lot of the sliders out there that are professionally made seem to have a large kickout.
Used the band saw to make the big cuts

I'm blessed enough to have access to multiple heavy duty MIG welders through my job... and my dad runs the two shops the company has in Utah, so I can use them whenever I need to for stuff like this.

Given the enlarged openings in the tube that I was left with due to cutting the front and back corners at 45 degrees, I just slid my front brace right up to the very front to cover the hole, and layed a bead down the middle of both of them to make it even stronger. (no pic of the bead inside, just pics of the finished product later)

Sorry about the poor pic quality - I'm operating on an iPhone camera, which is no slouch but it's not really "high quality"
My friend and I made some quick sliders for his 82 mini truck. They added about 2 hours to the process and overall they look pretty nice. Just gotta paint em up and they're good to go.

Made sure to clamp that sucker down so that the tube wouldn't bend on cooling after the welds - glad I did that because it would have been interesting to weld them to the frame if they had warped in the cold winter air!

Used some angle plate and cut it so that I wouldn't have any vertical welds (thanks to addicted offroad for the tip about not having vertical welds so as to not get stress fractures in the frame)

Pretty proud of how these turned out.. Using the .188 wall tube made them REALLY strong, they don't bend at all when you pic the truck up just using the sliders. Made sure with the forklift after I installed them

Very nice! I'm a big fan of the square tube sliders. How flush is it against the rocker panel? I can't really tell from the pics. The kickout came out great too. Exactly what I'm lookin at doing, I just want mine really flush and angled up. Great work!

Thanks for the compliment man! They sit pretty flush to the pinch weld. I'd say that it's an inch or less gap between them, but I'll take a quick pic tomorrow and post it so you can see. It's already dark out here.

Update: I got a screamin' deal on some 16" FJ Cruiser wheels. :girl: My buddy down at Discount Tire had a 2010 FJ come in and he pulled all 5 wheels to the side for me. I got all 5 wheels for a total of $267.72... I couldn't believe the deal his boss gave me but I'm certainly not going to complain!

Extremely clean wheels. Only found 1 flaw on them- I'll keep that one for the spare when the time comes to have a tire carrier.

I didn't really know what to expect when I picked them up today, I can honestly say I'm pleasantly surprised with how good they look on my rig. I was thinking about painting my bumpers and wheels black but I'm thinking I'm gonna stick with the chrome now for a while, this looks pretty good in my book!

Unseasonal weather....
So this happened yesterday. 8" of snow in 6 hours and it's still falling through today, and it's supposed to snow again this weekend. UNREAL. I've never seen a storm this big this late in the year, even in Utah. Throwing a wrench into my baseball season too, damn.

On a positive note, in the first week of June when I drive home for by friend's wedding I'm going to have a OME lift waiting for install. Got my tax return :thumb: so I'm excited to throw that on. Going to run the 890's in the rear since the 891's ride so harsh and I shouldn't have much extra weight in the back..
I live down the street from the guy at Cruiser Outfitters in SLC so I'm gonna be going through him to get the parts. REALLY excited about that because my current shocks are toast!

Same is happening up here in Fort Collins. Got 5.5" within 5 hours and still going. Also still going and were scheduled for snow all the way till wednesday. Its throwing a wrench into my wheeling plans because all the trails are still closed!
Looking forward to seeing your OME lift too!

I have a couple friends in Fort Collins and Boulder and they're all saying the same thing. Snow like crazy this year. Global warning my a$$.
I couldn't be more excited about getting that OME ready to install, finally a chance to wrench on the truck for a day and get it to look/function better for what I want to do with it.

Lift Time!
So my shocks on all 4 corners were pretty burned up.. So instead of just replacing them I went ahead and placed an order from Cruiser Outfitters for a pair of OME 881's for the front and a pair of OME 890's for the rear. Threw them on yesterday. Hopefully get some action pics later this week and maybe next weekend.

And got Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters to press these struts for me. He's a tremendous guy and he knows everything you could ever need to know about Toyota's, my experience with his business was nothing but good. He even hooked me up with a replacement front bumper for my runner because mine has developed a hole in the side from rust.

You can see in this pic both the surface rust developing on my sliders and the gaping hole in my bumper, both of which will be taken care of this week. I'm not neglecting it, I promise!
Planning on throwing some bedliner on the sliders and I have that other bumper so I'll hang that some time this week and I'll be in business.
I had a really weird thing happen where it felt like the truck wasn't running on all cylinders, it was stuttering when I called for power going up a hill or something and I needed to get a little heavy in the gas... After a little trouble shooting and replacing the fuel filter, which didn't solve the problem (12 bucks for a new one, no biggie) I changed the spark plugs and problem solved! Running like new again.
So my shocks on all 4 corners were pretty burned up.. So instead of just replacing them I went ahead and placed an order from Cruiser Outfitters for a pair of OME 881's for the front and a pair of OME 890's for the rear. Threw them on yesterday. Hopefully get some action pics later this week and maybe next weekend.

And got Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters to press these struts for me. He's a tremendous guy and he knows everything you could ever need to know about Toyota's, my experience with his business was nothing but good. He even hooked me up with a replacement front bumper for my runner because mine has developed a hole in the side from rust.

Another cool thing I did this past weekend that you guys might like to see- went to the Old School Rock Crawl out in Delta, UT, and got some cool pics of the buggies and jeeps that they had out there. Not as many Toyota's as I'd like to see, but there were some really cool trucks out there nonetheless.

Small update: I coated my sliders and my pinch welds and into the kick panels under the doors. I was tired of the rock chips underneath from bombing it down dirt trails so I took care of that with some Herculiner roll-on bedliner. Also cleaned up the trim pieces and got a new bumper because mine is all rusted out, so I painted the lower valence on that and polished up the chrome and it's nice and clean for install tomorrow!

also, in that last post you can see how small the gap is between the sliders and the pinch welds. It's really about 3/4 of an inch or so if I was to guess, I haven't measured it. [MENTION=56044]downpour11[/MENTION] I know you wanted to see that, I just didn't see it until now. Sorry about that!
