Uwharrie is a good spot to try things out. They have numerous trails with different terrains and degrees of difficulty. This website has a few maps for the trails and some other links to bits of information.

I went last year with a buddy and his Polaris Ranger. The only trail we didn't try was the Daniel which is supposedly on the most difficult. If you Google "Uwharrie and Daniel Trail" you will find quite a few videos of folks destroying suspension components. The rest of the trails are fine though. Just be sure to bring a buddy in another vehicle (goes without saying).

That's sounds like horrible advice. If He is new to wheeling why would you take him to the hardest trail first? So there can be a giant trail block?
Start with something easier and work your way up. the dickey bell hill climb is pretty goo and not too hard, other parts of Rocky mnt. loop also.

That's why people make illegal by-passes on Daniel. Because they are unprepared and can't make it up it. Daniel is by no means "hardcore" I am aware, but my first choice to learn on. no.

You must have not been recently. The first ledge is getting pretty rutted away will all the traffic it has been getting; due to the closure of RML.
It takes me a minute to hop up it locked F&R, of course I am not hugging the easiest right line...but even so, it's not that much easier over there.
Thanks guys, Ive seen tons of videos of the Daniel trail. I am new to trails like that. I live at the beach so all we have are mud pits around here. I think Daniel may be a little much for my 1st trail but doesnt mean that I wouldnt give it a shot if I was in the area for two or three days.

I agree, there are many planned trips in Colorado and Moab but none on the East Coast. I see a ton of 4runners in Myrtle Beach but only one that was lifted with off road tires and it was a girl driving it!! Which theres nothing wrong with that but the truck did look like it was used and abused. (typical for an off road truck around this area)
After going to Uwharrie this weekend I revise my statement in regards to Daniel.
I didn't go with my truck, but a Polaris Ranger and you were right, Daniel's really not that bad. I will attempt it next year with some tires better than the 3/4 worn down P Rates I currently have. Have you seen the Dicky Bell hill climb lately? It think it has several tracks that are much more difficult than Daniel. I guess all the rain this summer has really done a number on these trails.
