v6 engine mods?

Hi all.
What can be done to the V6 1 GR-FE motor?
If this has been asked before feel free to link the thread. Please and thank you.

Mod wise...cam, valves, intake, exhaust. or what?
Engine rebuilders?
Seems like we have tons of info about lifts/suspension and armor, not much about motor mods. Without adding a supercharger, what can be done?

URD had modded motors for big money but no more?
Was a Guy in Washington, I linked it in the head gasket fail thread but its gone now, enginehaus.com.

Right I could stuff a V8 in it, or buy a V8 T4R...I have an old Chevy 327 sitting in the garage but that's not going to happen anytime in my life.

I like the V6, would really just like to improve on it.
I have the K&N Filter Charger...seems to just make it louder...maybe more throttle response.
Did an axle dump/Resonator delete with hardly any sound increase.
Adding a URD MAF sensor calibrator right now/today.
Magnaflow 18" muffler next week.

Ideas?

Why do you not want to add a supercharger? That seems weird. All the other mods for that engine only serve to enhance your already installed TRD supercharger. I guess you could get headers and new injectors and a fuel management system, but the heads on a Toyota motor are so far advanced from any domestic engine that it is impossible to get more than a single digit increase in performance without custom everything. And that means fully custom cam grinds and custom stainless valves. Porting and polishing will actually lower performance on a Toyota engine, just like adding a "cold air intake" is dyno proven to add negative 2 horsepower to a 5vz-fe engine. Its not 1960 anymore, everything that does anything for an engine has already been tried 8 times by 50 different people and there literally are no ways to enhance power on a modern engine that engineers at Toyota have not already thought about 10 years ago. With that said, you can still make an engine stronger for forced induction by adding H-beam rods, moly rings, custom pistons and getting the assembly rebalanced, but that type of work seems better suited for racing. So are you planning on drag racing this truck in the future?

....not so much...

An engine is an air pump...find a manner in which to make it pump more air and you'll make more power...it's that simple.

The Toyota engineers have their hands tied by CAFE standards, warranty considerations, EPA and a bunch of other organizations...everything can be improved upon if regulations are not in play.

I don't believe you. An engine as an air pump is very oversimplified. Show me some actual recent dyno tests and I may reconsider. Until then, you are only speculating on a subject you know little about by using information from 40 years ago.
 
How does it lower performance on a Toyota engine? I am intrigued!

I had that done on a 5vz-fe motor when I had the most powerful supercharged tacoma that existed on the planet without nitrous. everything that could be done was done AND I had a dyno at my disposal to test everything. This is why I am so cynical.

When we ported the manifold, the incoming air velocity was lowered by the increased diameter of the runners and the polishing did not increase density, it only added turbulence, which again lowered the air charge density and the result of porting and polishing was -6 horsepower, dyno proven.
 
duffdog...No not drag racing. I am thinking that I will be in need of a new head gasket in the not to distant future. Seems like it might be a good time to enhance the motor if possible when it is pulled apart. Was just wanting a little more pep. Would want it to still be reliable and not as prone to HP breaking things do to a heavy right foot. Which seems to have a mind of its own sometimes.

I've seen porting go both ways on Toyota engines, but whenever it has gone bad it was due to poor porting design and lack of understanding of what the process is suitable for. Most successful examples were probably what you might also loosely call blueprinting, where they ensured the intake and exhaust gaskets and manifolds were perfectly size matched and exactly aligned.
Polishing is only effective when eliminating extreme roughness.
