*** V6 Head Gasket Action Request ***

Well I decided to try some BG stop leak we have at work. I’ve used it for other leaks and it works excellent, unfortunately it’s not available over the counter. It says will work on seeping head gaskets on the bottle. I put a bottle in and took it on a couple road tests to get the stuff hot and mixed well. The 4runner would run like crap if you let it sit for 30 minutes before. It’s been 4 days and no starting issues any more. No check engine lights and no rough running. Fingers crossed but I think I bought myself some time. I’ll report back if the problem reoccurs.

If it worked that well I would think you caught it early enough. I have not found any information on how long it lasts. I have seen the manufacturer states a 'lifetime'. Be cool if someone tested this and broke down an engine to see the results of the seal after some time.

Agreed. I’m not big on snake oil but I’ve been using their products for years at my shop and it really is good stuff. This is the first time I tried it on a head gasket though. We shall see.

Just an FYI there's a member here who claims that his engine was distroyed by the previous owner putting a stop leak in the 4R.

The stuff with fiberglass in it will absolutely cause all kinds of damage. Honestly I wouldn’t put any other kind of stop leak in my truck. This stuff will not hurt anything. I have used it many times before.

If I recall he said the stop leak clogged the cooling passages and the engine overheated.

I’ve seen the head gasket repair stuff do that. I flushed a clogged radiator that had the non fiberglass stuff in it. It looked like toothpaste coming out of the petcock.

I am also not a regular consumer of snake oil, but when this head gasket issue happened to me, I used BARS head gasket fix (1111) that I purchased from Advance Auto. There was someone either earlier in this thread or maybe another forum that had used this with good results. I used this product about 20k miles ago and its worked so far. My truck has a bunch of rust, dings, scrapes, etc. No way I can justify a $3k repair...

For this type of HG leak, these products can work very well. I used to run Land Rover Discoverys before I got my 4th gen, and a product called Kseal got great reviews. Disco IIs always had some sort of coolant issues and this stuff worked very well and buying some time (usually years or more). IF a proper fix does not make financial sense, why not...

OEM Toyota would definitely be my first choice.

If used plenty of FelPro Head gaskets without issue. 2nd choice

Yes sir,

05, started having issues at 115k.

Still running it on the original gasket, I won;t change it till it seriously starts eat coolant.
