No man you're the one that's wrong, so is my Audi a 4x4 car? It has the exact same freaking differential as the v8 4Runner? Yes some AWD cars have low range gear boxes as well again Audi has low range gear boxes in their All Road offerings.
Oh and guess what? I guess Subaru's arent AWD either because they also have dual range gear boxes.
I don't need to, my vehicle is full time awd until I engage the center diff. That's why I can take tight corners without it binding. Once its engaged then it's true 4wd and it will bind on pavement. Same with the V6 4th gen and any 3rd gen with the center diff option.
not trying to join the debate, just giving my worthless take on the system name thing. with the technologies these days the terms have gotten very blurred as to exactly what is what, so many companies keep coming up with all kinds of things to call their systems, quadratrac, selectrac, etc. the list goes on, so imo both the terms mentioned can be correct, again not trying to offend or cause trouble with anyone. for myself, i just prefer to go by what the each manufacturer calls their own system, if they choose to, for whatever reason they have done so, put an AWD badge on it & refer to it as so & so's all wheel drive system, thats what i would go by, but since toyota has 4wd on the 4r & refer to it as FT4WD, thats what i would prefer to go by if i needed to explain to a mech or anyone else what it has.eace:
If you call something by the wrong name enough eventually it becomes accepted. For instance people call wheels rims which is not correct. The rim is part of a wheel, but not a wheel itself.
