Why would you do all that and leave the Auto!?

It's a PITA to switch it to a manual, they never backed the 1UZ here in a way to make it simple. They were all autos, so for him to keep it passing cali smog it has to have the auto ECU. I could explain further but thats the jist of it.

That actually makes a lot of sense. In MN we don't do the smog thing... so I always forget about that part. Seems weird they never matched a manual to the V8's though.

The 1UZ was only used in luxury models around the globe, and in the early to mid 90's luxury meant automatic, sadly.
