V8 conversion

Finally switched out my center diff lock switch ( I was using a fog light switch) to a real center diff switch.

It was a pain in the butt. The stock Toyota center diff switch is momentary and the the Transfer case needs to see a constant ground.

I had to create a latching relay using six double pole relays.

I got a little meet coming up so wanted to make the Ltd flawless so decided to fix my seat.


This is the before picture.

I was at a stop light with two 3rd gen 4Runner's in front of me that I didn't know. The one in front of me did a burnout for a good 15 seconds until the light changed. Classy

Seat looks good. I take it the winch has not made it on the front bumper yet.

I am at the Tokyo airport now. The 7hr layover at LAX prevents me from making it tomorrow, or today, where I am now. Yáll enjoy.

Did he use actual leather on the part of the seats where Toyota uses vinyl? Looks really good. He could probably make some money selling 4Runner seat bottom replacement skins, like that one seller on ebay.

I used vinyl instead of leather. New leather would have matched the old leather and it was way cheaper.

Drove through a pond last week and submerged the passenger cabin. Lost my ABS ECU , finally dried it all out but now she smells like swamp.


I might have to pull the carpet and wash it.

Oh yeah. After the the water ordeal, they is a delay with my starter.

I have to hold the key in the start position and a few seconds later, it starts up.

My starter , relay or starter contacts might be on their way out.

Anybody ever had a delay in their starter?

From the time you turn the key to start till the time the starter engages.

Aparently the last time I took the Ltd swimming. I must have submerged the starter.

But you know what? The snorkel works.

The stater was getting worse and worse to start up. first it was 2 second delay from the time a turn the switch till the time the starter works till eventually , it took a minute for it to work.

Starter contacts went out.

Here is the whole issue. The starter is a pain in the arse to get to in my V8 Swap. I was cursing like a sailor.

Great work! Your attention to detail is great.

While your starter problem would have happened anyhow, the things you described are why I don't like snorkels unless you truly need one. One water crossing that isn't absolutely necessary can lead to many hours of work to fix. Now your interior is a swamp, who knows what electronics are still pissed off at you, your diffs could very well be full of water as a hot diff can suck water past the seals, blah blah blah...
You already know all this Singtoe so I'm really not bagging on you at all. More a comment to guys who THINK if they put a snorkel on they can swamp their rig with no consequences… Not!

To be honest, I did not even think that i swamped it that bad. i lost an ABS ecu as it is located at the lowest point on the body. All my breathers have been extended. I guess I should have extended the breather on the starter and it would had save it.


Neverthe less. When that volcanoe errupts and i need to forge through a stream, i just have to do it fast enough to not get the inside full of water. ( or go ahead and mount all the ECU's on the bottom of the roof) :guitar3:

End of summer Update.

Truck is running strong.

Exhaust is (Dynomax VT) is not getting any louder.

The hurricane drove gas (super) up over $4 a gallon. So I switch to regular. Absolutely no loss in performance and no spark knock.



Cooling system is great. I blew a fuse for the fans and while i was at a McDonalds drive through, I notice that the coolant gauge was getting near the red zone. I couldn't hear the fans, I guessed that I blew a buse. Left MCDonalds and as soon as i got to highway speed, the coolant gauge came back to normal.

So the moral of this story is that the eletric fans work when there is no airflow and while driving at speed, then don't need to be on.

Word of advice. Buy Toyota axles - either the oem or the re-manufactured. Don't buy new non oem axles as they are inferior products.

I let some 4runner.org members try my truck out today, they might chime in on the awesomeness of it.

Oh yeah, My "rebuilt" starter is working like a champ too.
