V8 conversion

What all did you use from the seqouia? Obviously long block+ main harness. But what misc parts off the tundra/sequoia should one need of they were thinkin about this swap.

It all depends on how what you want swapped over.

The most basic swap:

You'll need the Engine (long block and all the accessories), Transmission, engine wire harness, ECM, Fuel pump resistor and Fuel pump .

The 4runner's transfer case will bolt onto the UZ tranny.

If the donor has a transponder key, MAKE SURE YOU GET THE KEY, and its receiver assembly.

If you want to Upgrade to the Sequoia Instrument cluster, You'l need the Sequoia Climate ECU to make the Gauges work.

Now, If you want no CEL codes, you will need the EVAP box, both catalytic converters, the vapor pressure sensor in the gas tank, EVAP valves O2 and AF sensors from the donor vehicle.

I also used the front drive shaft from the donor vehicle and shortened the rear drive shaft.

So in a nut shell, you should have a donor vehicle as it will mostly have all the parts to do the swap.

Vehicles to look for: Tundras, Landcruiser, Lexus LX470 or Sequoia's. Tundra's always bring more money at salvage yards so rolled over Lexus or Sequoia's are the best bet. If you really want supremeness, try to find the Lexus as the motors are made in Japan and QC is much higher.

Here is an earlier project that I dug up from under the barn. I built it when I had a ML320. I carried a CBR954RR from Florida to New York during some different vacations.

Now I resurrected it for more benign work.

Looking good Rob.

My truck still is not running... I have been moving slow, and starting a swap from scratch is expensive..:pout: My exhaust should be here in a week or so and If I can force myself outside I will try and finish up the wiring... man its cold...

Hope you are doing good!

What do you do when you come across a photo of a V8 4runner on your computer screen...?

Thanks.

Another Cool Story.

I went to New York (Upstate) 2 weeks ago. Visited with an Aunt who is selling one of her properties. I took her for a wheeling ride around the property she was selling (99 acres). She saw land that she hasn't seen in 20 years (mountainous, brushy and a lot of distance).

She impressed about the capabilities of my 4runner.

Anyway, She said that one of the neighbors wanted to buy the tractor that was on the property. I told her that I'd like to have a tractor gave it to me. It is a Kubota Loader. I had to figure out how to get it home. I Rented a U-haul Auto-transport and hauled the tractor from NY to NC.

The 4runner pulled it beautifully. No swaying, no pushing and no straining.

I got a little over 300 miles to the tank on the way up but on the way back, the 4.7 was a gas hog.

1400 miles and no problems except.... I ran out of gas on I-95 30 miles from the house. I thought that 215 miles on the tank was a bit low and thought I could make it. Gas hog.

I was just trying to figure out HVAC load calculations for my new shop and had to get building orinatation off google maps and my 4runner was on the skyview and the street view. woo hoo .

To bad you cant see the 37's from space on the Taco.

And the street view.

So our transfer case bolts right in huh? Hmmmmm I'm thinking about doing this swap more and more... This has probably been asked already, but how much heavier is the v8 compared to out eninges now?

Aright Singtoe I have some questions for ya, hoping to start my swap soon, first off what is the weight difference between the two engines?

How much more the 2uz weigh compared to the 5vz? also could I just take a 4.7 from any of the vehicles that had them? like a 4runner for instance?

In your build you stated that the stock front diff wouldn't be able to handle the power the V8 has, could I just upgrade the innards of the differential?

Your help would be much appreciated.

I do not mind helping out at all...

The weight difference is not that much.

1 The 5vz has cast iron exhaust mainfolds while the 2uz has tube steel header so slight weight saving towards 2UZ.

2 The 5VZ has a 2 piece intake manifold that snakes up over the who top of the motor while the 2UZ is centrally located, so slight weight savings 2UZ.

3 2UZ has 2 more pistons, rods, cylinders, and all other running gear; so at the most, you looking at 75 more pounds then the 5VZ.

You can use any donor vehicle that the 4.7 came in. I think that the Tundra would be easier swap as its ECU does not have a transponder key.

The 4runner, LX470, and Landcruiser have their motors assembled in Japan, so QA is better, meaning better motors.

The Front differential is exactly the same between the Sequoia, Tundra and our 4runner's and Tacoma's. So there is no upgrade option, unless you go SAS.

Post your questions and I'll get them answered...:gun6:
