V8 conversion

I think he is playing with a Subie at the moment, or at least with the big lathe.

hey all. Sorrry i have not been on the forum lately. I have been busy with my shop and I got back into an old hobby. I got an EFI CRF450R that has been kicking my but.


4runner update. i Had it emmision inspected for the 3rd time in January and it passed once again. It almost failed for bawled tires....

I used my winch three times this winter. I pulled a wrecker that got stuck in someone's yard. I pulled a jeep on 35"s out of ditch that was stuck trying to pull a Silverado out of the same ditch.

The third time was to pull the silvado out of the same ditch. This truck was nose down into an 8 foot deep ditch burried to its pumpkins. It was stuck. The jeep was hooked up to it and myself and our winches were pulling both of us to the silverado. I had to tie the back end of my 4runner to a tree and finally winched the silverado free.
Point being... My winch bumper and fairlead was taking the stress with no problems.

So , what has been going on?

Mann I've been following your build to a key other than lifting the body off the Frame, I'm having issues with the swap just not being able to get it started and I was wondering if you had any words of wisdom. As far as I know the tundra I bought did not have the key Immobilizer, but it had a tvip system but from what I could tell I've bypassed it, it seems like everything I've done is right in accordance with the wiring diagrams...it's a 2004 tundra limited, was really hoping you could help me out with this one

Whats up Sing? Been a while since we've seen ya round here, but you know that! I've been talking some with James recently about his V8 plans, don't let him get to ambitious now! But he needs to get it off the ground or it's never gonna happen.

Look forward to having you back in the community a bit. Don't stay gone to long on us again.
 
New Swap just started

It has been a while so here goes.

Greenbowcounty has contacted me over the last 6 months or so and has hired me to do a 2UZ-FE swap in to his 2000 4Runner.

I asked him for a complete donner vehicle to get a UZ motor from and i would do the swap. He has bid on every wrecked Sequoia, Tundra and Lexus from the south east part of the united states. No luck until last week.

He won a 2006 Tundra TRD with 160K miles. So the swap begins.

Here is his 4runner being trailed to NC from Georgia.



Mind you, His 4runner has every JDM option you can think of - Surf Hatch and spare tire carrier, Overhead display for campus, folding mirrors, Fender mirror, and body decals. Very Cool.



Here is The Tundra







I am so jealous. It has the VVTI motor which is good for 40 horse in all rpm ranges....



I started stripping the Tundra down yesterday.









 
It started to rain at lunch time yesturday so I had to stop.


Interesting little tibets.

The 2006 Tundra is totally drive by wire.



The Tundra has 160k miles but i believe that they were all highway miles as the motor looks extremely clean.

Some other caveats.

The transfer case is totally push button.



And so is 1st gear.



And the TRD models had Limited Slip rear end.

 
I wanted to tray the limited slip diff and cycle the transfer case and try low gear. So I did a little crawling...



Had to work the TRD Bilstiens

 
I heard the rear axles on the tacomas 4runners tundras and sequoias are all basically the same, just different widths and mounts. could you swap that lsd into a 4runner axle?

It won't work, the 4runner is 8" and the tundra is 8.5".

8.4" like the Tacoma?

[MENTION=100116]D Farms[/MENTION], the 4Runner, at least the 3rd Gen, came with the 8" housing.

The Tacoma and Tundra, with the exception of the TRD models, had 8.4" housings.

The TRD model had the 8" with e-locker, just like our 4Runners........

Little tid bit there for you.....

Only difference was the mounting of the axle to the truck for the TRD vs 4Runner axle. You can do what I did, and convert to leafs, modify your housing, or add the rear link mounts to the Tacoma housing.

Modding your housing will be the easiest....
 
I knew it was 8 point something but to my excuse, I have not been thinking about yotas.

Sheesh Rob [MENTION=59542]Singtoe[/MENTION] you are not playing about about turnaround. Time to step it up on the few remaining open items so it's set for completion when I get it back to Atlanta.
 
If you do many more of these conversions you need to invest in a Ben Pack lift or the like.

Maybe the guy in the Malibu (Monte Carlo) wants another 5vz.
 
When my 4Runner grows up it wants Singtoe to V8 swap it.

This thread as I have said 100 times before gets me all kinds of excited :girl:
